I had an emergency c-section for my 5 month old daughter and am now considering opting for another c-section when/if the time comes for baby #2. I've read about peopole that get a tummy tuck while they're at it; and while I admit I haven't done much research on it yet, I'm curious to see if anyone else has experienced this. any thoughts?

That could be the best thing ever. And maybe a bit of Lipo while they're there?
I'm waiting until after the next pregnancy to start saving for a tummy tuck.

I had an emergency c-section also and then a planned one for my next child and I had heard the same thing. I asked my OB and my Plastic Surgeon and neither recommended it. It can be done and you can find surgeons that will do it but the downsides.....
A. Much longer recovery time, basically don't plan on holding your baby for at least a few weeks.
B. Increased risk for infection. (This actually happened to a friend, she ended up in the hospital for 3 weeks)
C. Since you are not back down to your desired weight/size you may not end up with the results you were looking for.

My surgeon recommended waiting about a year and then having it done.

Hope that helped.

Hmmm, that's interesting. I guess I'll have to wait. A lot of my friends think I am just being vain. But they haven't actually seen the damage twins can do. I have some doctors who see me for the first time and they almost gasp. Sad!

I don't think you are being vain at all!! I know exactly what you mean, I've had 4 children and there's nothing that can be done about that extra skin. I hate it and can't wait until I get my tummy tuck. In the meantime there are some exercises you can do to help, but don't expect miracles. Either rent pilates videos or go to some classes, it's really the best way to try and tone that area. The muscle will help the look of that loose skin.
And one more thing..... I would be furious if a doctor were to have a reation like that. That is so unprofessional!
Hang in there, eventually we'll both have great looking tummies!

I'm doing a pilates video- love it! But I just started too late. There was no time before!
The funny thing is, I have had this reaction from over 3 doctors. Even my ob knew how big I was with the twins, but was really surprised about the amount of extra skin and that all the stretchmarks were still there. I hope that tummy tucks for moms can become more affordable and accepted!
I can't wait until I have somewhat of a decent tummy! Thanks stlstroller!

I am so glad I saw this! My baby is 9 months - I have twins that are 19 months. All c-sections. I have gotten down to my goal weight (and even a little lower, it was A LOT of work). However - I have so much skin around my middle and I would love to have a tummy tuck. I am actually going for a consult in 2 weeks. I want to know what I am looking at price wise what to expect. Maybe I should wait until the baby is a year? I don't know. I think about getting rid of this skin everyday!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the link. Checked it out already and signed up.
Hope your consult goes well and as long as you have someone to help out for awhile you'll be fine. I don't think it would make much of a difference if you did it now or waited.
Good Luck!!
