I myself think Marvin is a teensy bit old fashioned...but it does have special meaning to you, and that is all that matters. Also, I don't know if you have tried saying just the first and last name..."Marvin Farnum" It sort of rhymes I think, I don't know if that would be a problem for you?

Ok, please don't be too hurt- but seriously? Marvin Ira?! I also have a relative whom I am really close to, but his name is Merlin. Yep- like the wizard. And while he is a very wise and awesome man, there is no way I'm naming my son that. It's just a terrible name. Same thing on the hubby's side- seriously, O'Dean, Melvin, and Mildred... no freakin' way. Great people saddled with simply unfortunate names. I've been thinking about other ways to reference my dear grandfather, Merlin. Like the small town he grew up in is a great name, and other kinds of things- like my grandpa is the "inspiration" for the name. Just something to think about. But Marvin Ira is just not a good idea, trust me. I'm pretty sure he will hate his name the rest of his life.

If you are set on it, maybe you could come up with a nickname or something?

I do not like the first name at all.. I think Nathaniel is such a nice name for a boy and I feel like Marvin, will get made fun of... =/
