My DD is 3 months old and since she was a few weeks old she had an umbilical hernia. Whenever she cries for long the hernia protrudes more (like a tiny button popping out and grew to a small sausage like thing). The Dr said it will heal with time or she can have surgery at 4 yrs old
My problem is that we were cosleeping for many reasons including the fact that when we put her in the crib she would cry so hard the hernia got worse and because although I would feed and burp her before bed she would vomit out her mouth and nose or just her nose without a sound and couldn't breathe! I would immediately jump with the nasal aspirator to suction the thick chunky vomit from her nose.

I am scared to put her in the crib because of this. I am so scared I won't wake up and my DH sleeps through everything from construction noise to a fire alarm.
I am trying to get her used to the crib and put her in it for daytime naps but she
will wake after 20-30 min instead of 2-3 hrs cosleeping or being held. Now when I attempt to put her in the crib I am too afraid to sleep so I try to watch her.

I am usually able to put her down without waking her but she has vomited
out her nose twice and seems to have anxiety when she wakes up in it. I sit right by her crib but out of sight so she doesn't make eye contact and try to get
up. She gets wide eyed cries tears (barely any noise) and shakes violently. I swear
she looks like she is panicking! Have you experienced this and what can I do to
help her? I have tried singing to her, patting her, but it is like she can't see me. She shakes for up to 10 minutes after I pick her up and won't make eye contact. She shales when we go near her crib too now.

I would continue co-sleeping if crib sleeping causes so much anxiety for the both of you. maybe talk to your ped about it to get some advice on the shaking behavior. I wouldnt force the crib if it induces so much anxiety for her right now, she may learn to fear the crib and you def dont want that.

i agree about not forcing the crib. my now almost 10 month old still co-sleeps for part of the night. but i did not even assemble the crib and start using it until he was 5.5 months old, and he did not act nearly as bad as yours! i feel for you, and hope everything is ok!

Thanks for the suggestions and support. I will definitely ask my pediatrician and until then (and likely for a few months)I am going to hold off on attempts to put her in the crib. It breaks my heart to see her suffer like that. I definitely want her to feel safe and secure and it isn't worth it to force it. I just have read so much about how hard it is to transition the baby to the crib we thought it best to start soon.

I would consider getting a second opinion about the hernia. I wonder if there is another issue going on maybe GERD? Stay strong and do what you feel is right. My son went between co-sleeping and cribbing for the first year he was alive. He sleeps in his crib just fine now. I would just make sure you lay your girl down when she is sleepy and not asleep. That was my mistake. Good luck!

you know my baby is almost 12weeks old and startles every minute at every sound,i was so bothered ans coming from an african setting, the grand parents had many solutions to it which didnt go well with me.even when he is sleeping in your arms,he gets so easily startled that i wonder where a baby gets that from (panic attacks).
He slleeps in his cribs, though not for long except you lay him on his stomach,he will definetly sleep for hours without getting startled at sounds and movements, but just reading your post made me realise its been a while i notice the startlings,it juststopped without me knowing when it did.am sure ur baby will sonner than u know it stop it cos my baby also has a big navel which protudes seriously wen he is screaming for attention. as for the vomitting, my son did that once or twice usally wen he overeats and my dear, he can burp like thrice on one feeding,so most times,i rub his back for long or justhold him over my shoulders for a while so he doesnt throw up weni put him down. dont worry, this will surely pass
