I believe that everyone has a type of role model in their life perhaps that is why people are seen to be great in the first place.

The question then comes, what makes someone your role model.

As for me I believe it is who they are and what they stand for weighed over what they have done.
As for me, my role model is my uncle, the renowned entrepreneurial expert because I really do know who he is, I have seen his good works and furthermore he is real to me.

Which seems to sum it up for me, role models who are bigger than life are often not real. Pick a role model you know.

My role model is my dad, but I don't think that's what you were after is it?

I have had a number of role models in my life and usually I look up to them because of their conviction, integrity and passion for what they believe in. But I also think it is the little things that make someone a role model.
I worked as a youth worker at one point and one of my older kids told me that when they were young it was not any of the programs that I ran that made a difference, but the times I dropped by to see them at a play, or the time I gave just to listen when they needed it.

I have been lucky enough to have a couple too. What I find much harder is becoming the role model that i want to be especially for my kids.

My role models are my parents: 32 years of marriage and still in love and devoted to one another and their faith, through ups downs, sickness health, bad and good. It's so inspiring. I often think to myself "what would mom do in this situation?" or "how would dad handle this?"... and I more often than that call them for advice

MSLight, we are fortunate to have parents that teach us values. Yes, my parents are my greatest role models, too. I only hope that this rubs off on my own children and that they can say the same thing, one day.

Though it's interesting, I'm an educator and experienced mom, yet during the last few months I've gained so much knowledge and inspiration from other moms - on your site and www.only4moms.com (my two favorites).
