Oh my goodness. Well I guess I was a little naive when it came to potty training my 27 month old twin girls. We started back in May after we returned from a major trip, they were game! Super excited to sit on thier new potties from Ikea. One started right away, never asking for the potty but sitting on it and hit or miss if she used it. As for the other twin, well she's peed once since May. My hubby and I are getting really frustrated . . the girls will sit on the potty for hours and do nothing then ask for a diaper and fill it. It doesn't seem to matter what we do to encourage, brib, reward, discourage . . nothing seems to help. I have talked to another mom who began having her girls wear BIG Girl Underpants a little bit each day, in attempts to encourage them to pee on the potty and once they got to wear the big girl underpants she was well on her way to training. My girls well, they had no problems filling their big girl underpants.

We are getting desperate can anyone offer anything?

If they're not using the potties, take them away. Go back to diapers until they're really really ready for the potty. At least that way, you won't have to worry about them filling their big girl underpants.

Another thought... it sounds a little bit like they don't really understand what potties are for (because they sit there for hours then ask for a diaper and promptly fill it). Are you making a huge, big, super-excited deal of it when they go in the potty?

Potty training twins is hard. My girls are about that same age- and like to sit on the potties, chatter, and never do anything in them. They watch me go potty, and we try and talk about it. But to be honest- they just don't get it, and I think it's because they aren't ready. My parents told me I was about 3 1/3 to 4 by the time I was ready to train, so I'm going to relax about it, and wait until they really understand.

Thanks for your input fellow moms.

My hubby actually threw their potties in the garbage, one twin didn't care the other cried and carried it around with her. They have watched me use the potty and wear big girl underpants as well. They know that when they start to use the potty they can wear big girl underpants and get a bike, but they don't use it. We also made huge deals of them using the potty and also didn't make a huge deal but that didn't seem to phase them either.

Maybe you are right to just stop trying to training them until they are really ready. I'm going to attempt one more thing, putting them on the potty for 3 - 5 minutes numerous times a day, and see if that encourages them . . . we shall see.

thank you again, good luck to all in potty training.
