Mary, my two-year old has been having some emotional problems that go beyond normal two-year old behavior. She's been waking up in the middle of the night hysterical asking for things and then changing her mind after I get them for her. She woke up at four thing morning and didn't finally calm down until 6:00am. I'm at the end of my rope. She's cried all day long and nothing I do will calm her down. She's making herself sick. I gave her a reese's after she got up from her nap hoping it would calm her down and she took it and crumbled it up in her hands. Something is really wrong and I don't know what to do!!!

Night number two...Up at 3 now and she's hysterical. Won't lay down, doesn't want to be held. She yells at me when I ask her if anything hurts. Nothing physically wrong with her that I know of.

You need to discuss this with your pediatrician to specifically rule out any physical problems. Night terrors are common in toddlers, my daughter had them and her eyes were open she would yell and thrash but she wasn't really awake. My daughter also started getting migraines when she was 3 and she would wake up in the middle of the night screaming in pain and throwing things simply because she was frustrated that we couldn't help her (I felt like throwing things too some nights). My daughter has outgrown both, lucky for us.

Pediatricians are suppose to cover the entire health of a child physical, emotional, and mental. A good pediatrician asks questions about home and school as well as doing a physical exam. Your pediatrician can rule out any physical causes, examine any stress related situations, and recommend you to a specialist or other course of action as needed.

I took her to the doctor and he said that he was suspecting night terrors as well. There isn't anything physically wrong with her. I'm frustrated because there isn't anything to do for her. She just doesn't settle down. Any advice on how to handle her? I can't go everynight without sleeping. And she crys for hours.

I was so relieved to read your post yesterday. I have a 23 month old daughter who was doing the exact samething. we took her to the doctor & nothing was physiclly wrong. right after I read your post my husband comes in holding our normal happy baby. he said "she's teething" he put oral jell on her gums & she was so relieved. we were shocked it was teething. we had gone through several spells of teething & never had her behave like that. good luck & hope this helps

Oh yes, I heard the molars are much worse than the rest. It is a possibility. How does she act during the day?

there can be four things.

one that she is hungry.
two that she needs a nappy change.
three she is scared sleeping alone.
or four she sleeps enough in daytime so she feels sleepless during night.
now try to figure out whats the prob.
