Hello -
I'm a 1st time mom. My 6 week old has only been BF. He went through the normal passing of the stool to include the seedy yellow poop which he occasionally still does but he also has poop that is the darker green color and the shape of shredded spinach but sticky. Has anyone seen this for a BF infant? In any infant?

My 3 mo. was doing this a few weeks ago, and was having diarrhea every diaper. He had no other symptoms, so it must have just been a bug. He finally got over it after about 2 1/2 weeks. He is formula fed, and we hadn't changed anything, so I don't know what the deal was. His poop still isn't what it was before all this happened, but it's more "normal". Is your son still doing it?

My son had poop like that occasionally and he was breastfed. With breastfeeding, sometimes poop color is related to what you are eating (i.e. green veggies lead to green poop). Also, I think sometimes it can be related to an imbalance of fore milk and hind milk. If he's interested, try letting him nurse a little longer to get more of the hind milk.

Thanks for the responses. The doc put him on pepcid for reflux and this inadvertently did away with it. I took him off the Pepcid to try to get a stool sample of the green stuff and didn't put him back on. Then for a short while the poop returned but has since disappeared. Thanks! I will also pay more attention to the breast feeding.
