Default My son is throwing up after eating pasta

In the past 2 weeks my son (21 months old) has thrown up on 3 separate occasions with no fever. The only thing in common between the three nights is that he had pasta for dinner. The first two nights it was the same sauce (red meat sauce)but tonight it was a different type of sauce entirely (chicken cheesy alfredo). Other meals he has eaten are homemade pizza (using pasta sauce), chicken, icecream, pancakes and other snacks. Those nights he has been perfectly fine. It seems that once the pasta is out of his stomach he is fine and he doesn't throw up again. The only problem that continues after the initial vomiting is an extremely runny diaper that lasts for a few days afterwards. Why would he all of a sudden have a difficult time digesting pasta? It was his favorite meal prior to these incidences. If this sounds familiar and you have an idea of what to look for or ask the doctor about please let me know. We are away from home right now and since it's 3am I have to wait until the morning to call the doctor.

It may not be just the pasta. Even though the sauces are different is there a common ingredient among them? Especially if it's an ingredient you don't normally find in his diet. You would be surprised what they put in some foods.
Life is an adventure, I share every day with my two beautiful children.

He has had that exact pasta before and not had a problem (Ronzoni). Both times the sauces were new. One was a concoction that my father made with a few different red sauces and meats. The other one was a four cheese alfredo by ragu I think. He is fine now except for his exploding diapers. We are giving him lots of water and trying to stick to the BRAT diet. I'm just very leery to give him pasta any time soon. I'll take a look at the ingredients in the things I know were used and make a list of them all. hopefully, I will be able to find the ingredient that might be causing the problem.

I am having the same problem with my son. He is also 21 months old. I realize you wrote this over a year ago, but I was researching this and your post popped up. Did you ever find out what was wrong? My son has vomitted 3 times as well. The first time was at Chili's and he ate one bite of the mac 'n cheese and puked all over the place. I didn't think anything of it except maybe he was getting the flu. He eats mac 'n cheese all of the time. A week later I gave him Spaghetti O's for dinner and he vomitted all of himself a few hrs later in bed. Again, he eats Spaghetti O's all of the time and loves them. Tonight my mother-in-law was sitting with him and gave him Kraft mac 'n cheese for dinner, and I just finished bathing him and cleaning up the puke in his bed. This is so frustrating because The only common thing I can think of in each thing is the noodles. The mac 'n cheese at Chili's was their own version...not Kraft. So, I'm clueless. I hope that you can tell me what you found out about your son. Since it has been over a year, is he able to eat pasta now? I hope this goes away because we like pasta A LOT!

My son is 8 and we thought his throwing up was acid reflux. We finally connected the pattern to pizza. He has no other symptoms and once he throws up he's fine. It also happens at night and is preceded by burping. We use many different sauces but are now paying close attention. Has anyone heard of a diagnosis for this issue?

I once coached a girl that was allergic to the wheat or grain/hops or some other ingredient in pasta, it actually made her ill and stunted her growth...not to say that is the same but could you look that up and see if it can cause stomach problems maybe?

Maybe they have allergy on something that is on the pasta. Bring them to a doctor for a check-up and maybe they could find out what is the problem.

Have them tested for Celiac disease. Many people have these same symptoms because of gluten intolerance.
