Default Cute one year potrait ideas?

Well we managed to make it through Will's first year! My family has the big tradition of getting pictures taken, like picture people style and I don't have any cute ideas for his first! I want something more elaborate, the kind you see in the books they have for you to look at in the waiting room. Does anyone have any cute ideas?

The only thing I know we want for ours is the number 1.
Do you know what I'm talking about? Its like a big number 1 that they can stand next to, its about their height....I don't know if its wood or plastic or what....
When I make his appt I'm going to ask to make sure they have one first, I'm adamant on that point.
Aside from that, I have no idea. I'm just going to see what the photographer thinks will be cute.
As for keeping him happy, bring toys, maybe try to schedule the appt for right after naptime/feeding time so he's wide awake/not hungry. Or bring snacks just in case.

I might have some advice! Right now I’m doing photography for JcPennys Portraits. I also did my daughters 1st birthday pictures. Studios usually have props that you can use, but I advice you to take your own. Make his pictures “personal” and what we say is “have them tell a story about who he is and what he likes to do.” Abby was all about make up so I made a huge tutu for her, threw some pearls on her, and gave her blush, red lipstick and some make up brushes. I admit the outcome was beautiful. She was comfortable because she was doing something that she liked, it’s nearly impossible to ask a baby to pose, so you have to catch them when you can. I bought a bunch of pictures to hand out, but the one I have framed is a 10x13 on a gift matted frame. I also advice you not to get a wall portrait, studios try to bribe you into getting these, depends on there sales. 10x13 is a great size to have a portrait of yearly. I also chose a “multi design” which gives you the option of putting more than 2 pictures in one, the one I chose has 4 small pictures of just her facial expressions and her “main picture.” I could go on for days…can you tell I love what I do? lol

I left some important info out. Choose a time when he has already eaten and napped. As a photographer I have had a lot of moms come in with hungry kids, I can’t sit and wait for them to be fed; you’re on a time limit. One more thing, do not choose the first appointment or last appointment of the day, they tend to slack on those. I attached a pic of a session I did for Abby, I only have the 10x13 for the tutu pics and my scanner is not that big lol

I am a photographer, new to the business, though I have friends that have been doing it for quite awhile. I took my son's one year old photos. I had just started photographing babies at the time and my biggest goal was to capture what he looked like and to keep him still. I really didn't think about anything that would have been special.

However my friend who has been a photographer for a lot longer than I have; she took these pictures for a one year old that were just so cute. The only difference was she took them outside on the grass. Assuming the Picture People will let you bring your own props... She had all different colored balloons. A little birthday cake. And then she had this adorable home made birthday hat! If I could do my son's pictures over again I'd use props just like that.

Here is an example of what I mean...

It's the first post on her photography blog. I would just attach a picture but I do not own them. so feel free to check it out on her site. I think they are some of the most adorable one year old pictures I have ever seen!

Congrats on making it through the first year!

I took my Daughter to a studio for her 1st B-Day pics, When I made her app. they asked me to bring any party supplies I had from her party (invite, plate, napkin, cup, banner) I also took in some balloons (no mylar)b/c of the flash. I made her a tutu. I took in a personal cake for her "messy cake shot" they had "O" "N" "E" letters that I handed to her 1 by 1 that pic came out great.

I have three kids. When each child turned one, I took them to a studio on the exact date of their birthday. I had them pose with a prop....the number 1, like HStarr posted, it is wooden or plastic. I have all three of their pictures hanging right beside each other. I love it.

My dd did one of those old timey looking photos. The man doing the photos had a feather boa and he would toss it at her face and it tickled her nose. She smiled so sweet and my husband dropped loads of money on those pics.

At one shoot, the woman let my daughter toss silk flower petals in the air. She loved it.
