Thread: Picky Eater

    Unhappy Picky Eater

I am a terribly picky eater. I guess I never really grew out of it. It never bothered me until I found out I was pregnant. This is my first pregnancy, and other than not eating right, I am doing pretty well. Anyway, I am worried that the baby isnt getting what he or she needs. Plus, my midwife, and a zillion internet articles, gave me a list of foods that pregos should avoid. WHAT CAN PREGOS EAT?! Especially picky ones? Am I the only one, or are other picky pregos lurking about with me?
I would appreciate any ideas for food that is safe to eat, and that I can enjoy...

Well I'm a heck of a picky eater and I have some food allergies. What type of foods do you like/dislike?

No one can be a pickier eater than me! But one thing that I like and is good for mommy and baby is fresh fruit! It also helps with nausea, for me at least. A lot of healthy food really does not appeal to me and making myself eat it just makes me want to throw it up afterward, but sometimes if I "mask" it I can eat it. Like maybe dipping a food you do not like into something you do, for example, I cannot stand corn but love mashed potatoes, so when I eat the two I eat them together, I mix the corn into the potatoes (after both have been seperately cooked) and then the potato taste "masks" the corn and I cannot taste the corn but am still getting the nutrients out of it! Hope that is of some help!

Sleepeater, you dont wanna know the foods I like to eat! Not too much of it is very healthy. I do like fruits, and I have some in mind that I want to pick up at the store. I dont mind chicken or turkey, but red meats are another story. I will eat stuff like a hamburger, or tacos, but steaks and things like that, I can't stand. Im pretty good about veggies, but i really hate broccoli and spinache (ick). Dairy is no problem, execpt cheese. I HATE cheese. I think its sooooooo gross. But I hope that I am making it up with all the milk I drink (about 2-3 glasses a day). I ate a turkey sandwhich the other day, and it was so...blah. It was just turkey on white bread (I still feel like I am five!). I hate mayo and mustard, so my sandwhiches are boring. I would have put some lettuce on it, but we didnt have any. When we go out to eat, I stick with foods that are familiar (read: chicken fingers and french fries) becaus eI know I will eat them. I do LOVE pasta, however, I will not have it with Alfredo sauce. I have been on a spaghetti-o's thing latley. Its like I cant stop eating them! LOL. Oh boy I sound like Im still a kid. Im gonna try SO hard not to raise a picky child...

I didn't used to be so picky till I got pregnant.I'm not eating very healthy either. for me it's a combination of a superhuman sense of smell and a newly acquired aversion to certain textures. For instance, I used to love tomatoes. I'd eat tomatoes slices with just a little salt or with some cottage cheese, but a couple of weeks ago I was eating a sandwich with tomatoe on it and the texture of it literally made me gag. I thought I was going to lose everything. NOt good considering the bathroom in the building I work in is 1/2 a city block away. It seems I have more food aversions than I do cravings. As I mentioned previously smells also make me nausous. I came home the other day and my fiance was thawing out fish (which I used to like and the smell was never so bad I wouldn't eat it) I just laughed at him and said "so you're planning on cooking outdoors this evening". I feel awful because I know I need to eat healthier but so many things make me sick. We eat out alot now because I can't stand to smell things cooking. I try to keep our kitchen stocked with at least a few healthy items that don't require preparation such as oatmeal, cereal (so many now have 100% folic acid), yogurt, oranges (one of the few fruits I'll eat regularly), fruit and nut bars ( nutri grain I think), cottage cheese, and lots of juices (particularly the v8 fusion). I don't really mind eating fruit (though there's a list of it I won't touch), but veggies are another thing. there are very few I can still keep down so I try to drink lots of v8. The v8 fusion is awsome as it's a full serving of fruit and veggie in one 8 once glass and tastes like a fruit juice rather than the regular v8 that taste like tomatoe juice. I particularly like the peach/mango and pomagranite and blueberry.
