    Unhappy Touble with Potty training

My son is 2yrs and 10months and we are trying Potty training with him for the past few months. He has been very good with peeing in the potty right from the beginning and now is off diapers for the most part (infact he refuses to wear the diaper throughout the day). The problem is with his poop, he refuses to do that in the potty. Everytime he gets the urge, he tells me to put on a diaper and when he is done he asks to be cleaned. We have tried every thing from sitting with books, offering to take him to his favorite places, offering him rewards like candies, even new toys....nothing has worked. We are really out of ideas and at our wits end. Can anyone help??

Does he still use a little potty? I once heard that you keep putting a diaper on for them to poop, but make them sit on the little potty seat. As time progresses and they do good with that you try letting them sit on the potty with their diaper undone, but still on. Then just put the diaper inside the little potty and last they poop straight in the potty. I have no idea if it really works because our kids are just the opposite, they love to poop in the potty, but don't do so well with peeing in the potty everytime.

He does have a small singing potty of his own, but that doesn't work for him either. Infact for the past few weeks since he knows that we will try to lure him to use the potty he is holding his poop for 2-3 days and this is increasing my worry.

If he is having the bad habit of holding it for a days it may be a good thing to just wait til he tells you that he wants to poop on the potty. Another option is to talk to his pediatrician about what he suggests. I have a friend whose son was put on stool softeners so that it was harder for him to hold it in and easier for him to get out so that he didn't have to sit for so long to poop. I'm not sure if that is something most would recommend though...
