    Question Babyshower

This is my frist pregnancy and tho i'm only a few weeks pregnant, I've realize that I don't want a baby shower at all. I've never been that type of person that likes being the center of attention, and just the thought of favors, food, location really doens't make me want to.
Do you think this is a good decision?

I guess it depends on what situation you're in financially or if your friends/family will bring you gifts when the baby is born just b/c they want to. Or if you just plain don't want any gifts period. It really is up to you. But I will warn you: Since this is your first, will any parents/in-laws be offended if they can't throw you a shower or get you/baby any thing?

I am pregnant with my first, and I can tell you that you get A TON of very much needed items. My mother just spent $400 on gifts for my upcoming shower. My MIL has spent so much on the shower she is throwing me as well. Like most new parents out there, I don't have that kind of money just sitting around, I have doctor bills up the ying-yang, so it is so helpful, and you'll appreciate it. You don't have to play the games, just have an adult gathering and open the presents afterwards. *Just remember the thank you cards.

Like you I hate to be the center of attention but everyone from my mom, friends, family, and mother in law, co-workers wanted to throw me one since it was my first. It is kind of overwhelming to think about the details, like favors, etc and I was about ready to call it off! But it was sort of pressured on me, and I'm glad they did it because you save a lot of money. Especially if you create a registry, you get all the necessities and things you want without having to spend a fortune. I would say try to go ahead and do it, it's just one day but appoint someone to play hostess so you can sit back and relax without having to worry so much if everything is perfect or not.

Hi. Even though I have had baby showers, I am the same way don't like being the center of attention. It turned out not to be so bad. Plus with it being your first, you get a lot of needed stuff. But if you are just set against it maybe try having a dinner or going out to a resturaunt and doing things there. It's always fun to eat! When your done you just go home with all your things, no silly games, hats, party favours. That may help those that may be offended by your decision.

I hate being the center of attention too! I was totally dreading the baby shower that my mother in law couldn't wait to throw for me and her son. She understood my aversion to crowds and crowds focused on me in particular, so we didn't have a traditional baby shower. We decided to have a 'co-ed' shower, and it was actually more like a party than a baby shower. My MIL wasn't very excited about my husband having alcohol (beer) but it turned out so good, even she admitted it was a fun change from the normal shower setting. It turned out to be SOOOO much fun and we got soooo many needed items for the new baby. When we were opening all the gift (the most DREADED part to me, sitting there while everyone is watching) it was so much fun because my husband was opening them with me. He didn't know what half the stuff was which was hilarious, and the pictures are priceless. Some of the guys that came even thought to pick him up some gag gifts. It was a great time, and I'm so glad we had one.

You don't have to have one, but it is very helpful to get much needed supplies as well as share the joy of bringing a new life into the world.

I don't like to be center of attention either but I will say that if someone offers to throw me a baby shower I will not turn it down!! I just found out that I am pregnant (mother's day!!) again with number 7!! My husband and I did not plan on having any more children, our youngest is 19 months, so I just gave away the last of the baby stuff last month!! Go figure right? just after I give the stuff away I need it!! We don't have a ton of money either and we just bought a house last month. So I say if someone offers glady accept!!

WooHoo!!! I'm so glad to hear that you are going to have a shower. I can ditto a lot of what was said about not liking to be the center of attention as well. But I had an aboslute blast at my shower. Not because of the gifts as much as seeing how much my husband and I are loved and how important the birth of our son was to everyone who loves us.
So, at your shower, sit back, relax and soak in the love.
