    Question Possible Nicknames?

My husband and I picked out our little girl's name long before she was even conceived. We loved the first name Serenity, something unique but not too out there. We decided on the middle name as Rose, after my wonderful mother and my husband's grandmother. Everyone we've told her name too thinks it sounds lovely, but my mother brought up a good point. What on earth are we supposed to call her for short? I personally don't mind calling her Serenity all of the time, but most people are very particular about being able to call people by nicknames...my mother is one of those people. It's driving her nuts that she can't think of a good nickname.

Can anyone think of any good ideas? The only thing I could come up with that sounded halfway decent was Reni. My husband wants to call her Sin for short, but when I told my mom that she blew a gasket, lol. He also came up with Seer, but I just don't know. We need some suggestions! Please help!

Have you thought about waiting until she starts developing a personality and then choosing a nickname that fits? My DH and I purposely choose Tiarnan because it is nickname proof and have ended up calling him Booger. (That came about when he was teething) I can't think of any nicknames that can be formed from Serenity, which is beautiful by the way, but I am sure that something will come out of her personality. I hope this helps and good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

I know a Serenity and that is what she is always called, its a beautiful name anyway so why shorten it?. If your mother is adament about having a nickname, I'm sure she'll be able to come up with something once she is born. By the way, Reni was the best I could think of too!

    Talking Thanks!

Thank you so much for your suggestions! Suri might work, I'll ask the hubby. And who knows, perhaps will think of a nickname that has nothing to do with her name once she gets here. Funnily enough, we've done that with two of our dogs, lol. Again, thank you for the suggestions and keep them coming!

My husband hates nicknames, so we're naming all of our kids names that can't be shortened, on purpose.
Serenity is a tough one. Suri is cute. Or like someone else said, maybe something that has nothing to do with her real name at all.
My son's name is Roman. I call him Frankenstein. Don't ask why, it just fits.

    No name is nickname proof.
    Tiarnan - T, T man
    Roman - Rome, Romy, RoRo
My husband thought Jonas was nickname proof but I call him JoJo sometimes.

    How about Rosie? I like Reni . . .

I think Rome sounds stupid (just my opinion) No one has tried that one yet. Romy is a girly name (in my opinion) No one has tried that either. My husband's dad tried RoRo and my husband told him if he said it again they were going to fistfight. (jokingly. Kind of.)
Aside from that one instance, no one has ever called him by a name-related nickname.
The theory was more along the lines of - If you want to call him John, don't name him Jonathon, if you want to call him Steve, don't name him Stephen, that type of thing.

nicknames are out of style right now, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. When she gets older, her friends will probably pick one out for her if she gets a nickname at all. But if you wanted to call her something shorter, Seri (pronounced Sari) is cute. Or Renna.

Can I suggest that you don't have to shorten the entire name? If you name your daughter Serenity you could call her Serena. Or just Sere if you really want it shortened.
