    Default possible abuse by stepfather

My very sweet and extremely well behaved 5 year old daughter recently told her biological father that when I am not home her stepfather smacks her in the face and head. She has always been a truthful child and never been spanked. I have never seen any marks on her, she has never said anything to me and if given the choice she always wants to stay with him versus going to the grandparents. He denied it of course and was offended that I even asked. Short of a nannycam, how can I find out the truth?

It would seem to me that you can't know for sure unless you have proof. I know one thing, I would NEVER ignore a child who says they are being abused. I hear so many stories about children growing up abused and noone would listen to them and that breaks my heart!! Have you talked to your daughter about this? Does her biological father have any resentment or any reason to stir up trouble between you and you're husband? If a nanny cam is what it takes to straighten it out one way or another, that may be the route you have to take!
