I love all the advice! I am getting razor burn around my bikini zone and it is so unsightly...especially now that it is summer time. I will try many of the suggestions and keep you posted on what works for me too. Thanks!!!!!!
They have stuff at Wal-Mart(& probably any drug store) I used to use called Bikini-Zone..it helped me ALOT!It is right around the shaving cream/razor area. It is a little tube that looks like neosporin(sp?)! Also you might want to try swapping razors! I have noticed certains razors give me worse razor burn than others.
Oh & I also read in Cosmo the other day that putting neosporin(sp?) works really well too! I haven't tried it yet, but I thought it would be worth a try!
if shaving and the razor burn becomes too much of an issue for you, you might want to consider laser hair removal. In just a few sessions you can be free of hair forever...no hair...no need to shave...no burn! It's something to consider if nothing else seems to help. Many physicians and medspas offer it- your OB may even have a hair removal system. It's fast, easy, and would certainly take care of the problem. I've had it done (legs, underarms, arms) and love the results! Hope this helps.
I have started to take a bath in baking soda several nights a week (of course, I still have time b/c my baby is not here yet and she is my first!) My doctor has suggested it for itchy skin in my vaginal area, but I also read somewhere that you can use it to for at home pedicures to help smooth your legs.. I usually use about a cup or so in about a foot of tub water, but just whatever works for you.. It helps smooth my legs and baking soda is fairly cheap. Keeping my legs from drying out by using it keeps me from getting razor burn quite as bad.
And as has already been suggested, I use conditioner, plus shaving gel. I always wash my legs first w/ a moisturizing soap... then I use suave conditioner with skintimate shave gel for dry skin (pink bottle) on top to shave. Might be a little much, but I used to get razor burn EVERY time I shaved and my legs would hurt and itch for so long afterwards I'd have to go days before shaving again... this works for me.
