    Default ready for kindergarten?

My son will be starting kindergarten in the fall. He is an only child and has not had to deal with other children on a daily basis. He did attend half-day preschool to help him adjust to being with kids his own age. The problem that I see he will have when he starts school is that if a child is mean to him he will cry and not say anything. I have talked to him and told him to let the teacher know or try to stand up for himself. We all know that kids can be mean. I would like to try and build up his self confidence and thought about enrolling him in karate class. Do any of you have kids in karate? Do you think this will help him? Or should I try something else?

How is he doing at preschool? You can talk to his kindergarten teacher and explain your concerns so she/he can watch and be aware. You can try karate, which is a fine sport, but don't do it with the intention of toughing him up. I'd suggest trying it but more importantly find something he really enjoys and is interested in.
