    Unhappy Solids upsetting belly

Has anyone had any issues with solids (cereal and 1 stage foods) upsetting babies bellies? My son has had solids on and off for a few months but I started feeding him regularly at 6 months Breakfast and lunch. Cereal and fruit and cereal and veggies.. He would scream at night for hours.. So now I have stopped feeding him and am waiting a few weeks to re introduce. He really is a super hungry baby and loved to eat. It just affects him at night as well as my sleep! Not sure what to do??

Solids can definitely upset their tummies a little as they get used to digesting them, but screaming for hours is a little extreme. I'd guess there is probably a specific food causing the problem. If you give him cereal at each of his solid feedings, it seems that the cereal could be the problem. Try switching the kind of cereal, or even the brand to see if he has the same reaction to another brand. You could try to see how he does on just fruit or just a veggie. Remember to wait 4-7 days between introducing foods to help you narrow down what the problem food is. Sometimes introducing solids causes problems with gas, or with constipation. He should grow out of both as his body gets used to processing the food, but if it is a food allergy/intolerance, he might not outgrow that.

I agree with Eniese - cereals, especially rice cereal, can cause constipation. I think its a good idea to try just one fruit or veggie by itself and see how that goes. When you re introduce cereals, I suggest something like oatmeal, and maybe add a little more formula/breast milk to make it more liquidy.

    Default Thanks

I had him on oatmeal.. I think that may have been the culprit. But I am going to try to start feeding him again tommorrow.. I will try like you both said and just do a fruit or veggie separately. I will see how he does!!
