    Question potty training troubles

I got custody my 3 year old niece last june. well she was still 2 at the time. she was not potty trained it took me until she was 3 1/2 to get her trained. she still wets the bed and she tinkles in her undies almost everyday. she only wets them a little every time. i know she can hold it, because she has held it on 2 hour car rides. i have tried everything i can think of to get her to break that habit. does anyone have any advise?

I don't know if you've tried it but you might remind her through out the day to run in and use the potty. Sometimes I think kids get to playing so hard and they forget until they've started to have a little accident. So maybe try reminding her every half and hour or so, until she starts to get it figured out more. Also with wetting the bed my pediatrician says that it is something that they can't control and that they will eventually outgrow it. Some kids are just heavy sleepers. My kids have been fine at bedtime but my sisters three kids have all had problems with it and her oldest is 8 and he is just outgrowing it. Hang in there!

Have you asked your pediatrician about it? I know it sounds like just a potty training issue but we thought the same thing about my neice who is 4. Well, my sister-in-law took her to the doctor and they referred her to a specialist who found out she had "urinary reflux" (I think that is what it is called). Something to do with the section between the bladder and the urethral opening. Basically she could not fully empty her bladder and so she kept having accidents; she also kept getting infections. They put her on some medicine and it is MUCH better now.

Bed wetting isn't always normal. He'd kill me for writing this but my brother had emotional problems that caused him to wet the bed until he was 16. That's right 16 years old! He wasn't permitted to drink anything 2 hours before bed & my mom always reminded him to use the bathroom before bed, didn't work.

    Talking make them go

My son is 2 will be 3 in july he is potty trained all but night and has those same little tinkle problems. I think its just him playing and he dosent want to stop to go pee. I have had him throw a fit when i took him to the restroom to pee b/c he was playing but i saw him holding himself so i new he had go, when he finally clamed down and wet it was like a rushing river for like 45 sec. and he told me he didnt have to go. So just make her go and sit on the potty like evey 1 1/2 hrs or so, even if she says she doesnt have to go tell her she has to try.
