Default 3 month old eating every 2 hours

My 3 month old is still eating every 2 hours during the day (breast fed). At night, however, he is sleeping anywhere between 6-8 hours in a row before waking up for a feeding. I've tried to stretch his feedings during the day to 2.5 - 3 hours, but most times it doesn't work, and I usually end up feeding him when he wants it. Sometimes he can only go an hour in between feedings. Is this normal?? I don't understand how he can go so long at night, but can barely make it 2 hours during the day. Any suggestions would be great!!

He can probably make it so long at night because he is getting enough during the day. My son was the same way, it seemed like such a long time before the every 2 hour feedings ended (a little longer if he had formula). Once I started introducing solids and he just got a little bit older, the space between feedings started getting larger.

my son was the same way! every 2 hours on the dot! even at night! but like RImommy said once the solids are introduced it gets better! i think when i started giving him solids he ate every 4hours (thats estimated, its been 2yrs!) I started giving my son solids at 4months cause he wouldnt stop eating, so i would ask his Dr about starting solids. it does help some......

totally normal. as long as your little one continues to gain weight, I wouldn't worry my little guy wouldn't take a bottle for a while and would go 5 1/2-6 hours (in the afternoon) without eating and would then "cluster feed" the rest of the time. then one day, he switched and now his long stretch is in the middle of the night (yay!). I'm just enjoying it while it lasts, since we have yet to experience "let's stay awake for three hours in the middle of the night" with this one....

Its normal for a breastfed baby. Most formula fed babies dont eat as often so dont compare you son to them. My son ate every 3 hours until 6 or 7 months old. Its not big deal though!

my son is formula fed but i started with breastfeeding and it doesn't matter for him. it's like clockwork, even when solids were introduced. he is a little bitty alarm clock but at night he'll sleep from 9-7 no problem! i talked to the pedi about it and since he's supposed to have 7oz every four-five hours we just half it down the middle and give it to him on his clock. babies get into a routine and it's really hard to break them of it.

although i do have to say that now turning 7mo these last few days he's been going a little longer with each feeding. i read that if you just wait ten/fifteen min longer each feeding and then a little more and then a little more... that you can eventually break them of their internal feeding clock.
