Question Should I skip or delay MMR?

My husband and I are debating whether we should give our soon-to-be-one-year-old daughter MMR. I am hesitating, since there are so many rumors about MMR causing autism (not altruism).

What do you think? Did you give your baby MMR? Can I skip or delay it? Thanks for suggestions!!

Altruism is an ethical and deliberate pursuit to make others happy. If the MMR vaccination causes altruism in addition to protecting a child from measles, mumps, and rubella then that's only an added bonus to get your child inoculated. You MUST vaccinate your child so they do not get those life-threatening viruses...it would be very altruistic of you to do so. LOL. Please consult the dictionary before posting.

Firstly, my bad. It is autism, but altruism.

Second, I am not anti-vaccination. I just want to hear voices from both sides. There is nothing wrong for a new parent to reach out for more information, especially on things that are going to be put into my baby’s body. And I personally met a mother, whose 18-month-old healthy baby suddenly had autism right after having vaccination.

From what I read and researched, a growing body of research has linked immunization with autism, seizures, asthma, arthritis, Crohn's disease, and even hyperactivity and learning disabilities; yet we continue to use vaccination as "insurance" even against diseases that no longer pose a significant threat. There is a hot debate among scientists and parents about whether and how to correctly vaccinate children.

Uhm, I don't know how educated you are on Autism, but clearely your friends child probably did not get autism from the vaccine. The signs of Autism seem to appear around the same time that the vaccine is given therefore Autism is not caused by vaccines. I did not vaccinate my daughter Gwendolyn and she's autistic, I know five families who decided not to vaccinate their children and all chidlren were autistic. So... yeah.

Vaccinate your kids, i don't let my kids around those who aren't vaccinated because I don't want my kids being exposed to anything. That may sound arrogant, but I would rather my chidlren be around those that are vaccinated.

The diseases that vaccinations gaurd against are still out there, and once enough people are not vaccinated we will see a rise in these diseases that "no longer pose a significant threat."

We are delaying for now (quite possibly until my kids can legally vaccinate themselves- if that's what they choose to do) for a number of reasons.... I applaud you for becoming informed, whatever you decide and it sounds like you are finding out quite a bit to consider. Don't vaccinate until you are confident in that decision. You can't take a vaccine back out once it's in. One of the ways we researched was by looking at each disease, its COMMON effects on the body, likelihood of contracting the disease, and treatments for the disease should you catch it. The history of vaccination is VERY interesting when you consider what and who we vaccinate... The MMR has done a very good job of ensuring that youngsters don't catch these diseases. The big question is at what cost did we do this...

Hi Best4 - This is a subject that is dear to me. Hear is my very informed educated opinion. VACCINATE your child. There are WAY too many parents opting to not vaccinate their children and we are seeing a resurgence in diseases that were once long behind us. Don't risk your child getting mumps because you didn't vaccinate or anything else for that matter. Its interesting how the one thing we aren't seeing is a decline in the numbers of Autistic children - yet so many more parents each year are choosing to not vaccinate. I believe some numbers for you are last year 300 children got mumps out of those 300 children, according to this article I read I want to say 3 or so died. Out of those 300 95% were children whose parents decided to not vaccinate, the other 5% were vaccinations that didn't take. Some don't and we never know because our children aren't exposed to the diseases. I second that I too will not let Ava play in the future with a child that I know isn't vaccinated.

As another side bar - 13 doctors published the original report linking vaccines to Autism. 1 recanted immediately and the other 12 have been brought in front of the medical review board and risked loosing their licenses. Also a recent lawsuit against the makers of the vaccine by 3 families of Autistic children was won by the makers of vaccine with the court saying there is NO evidence that the vaccine gave the children Autism.

I'm a very "granola" person and my child means the world to me I'm concerned everyday with what I put in her body and on it. Vaccinate!

Now you know this is going to be like a 5 page debate ... LOL

Lismom2: I went to your site and found a 1800 number. But I didn't see the email address. Here is my email address: info@best4future.com. Please feel free to forward me those links. Thanks!

Another question to moms: what side effects did your child show when he/she had the MMR shot? Did anybody ever take the seperate shots for measles, mumps, and rubella instead of the combined one shot?
