Default When to Start Trying Again?

    Hi All,

I was wondering if you guys could help me out. I had a D&E on 4/2/09. My Doc told me I only had to wait one cycle before trying again. I had thought that general protocol was to wait 3 months. I just want to make sure that when we do start trying again, that we are setting ourselves up for success, because I really don't want to go thru another miscarriage.

    Thanks!

Well for me whane i had my first miscarriage i wait until about 4 months and then with my second one that hurt the most cause i knew the sex of my baby i lost the baby 20 weeks and i thought my heart was gone forever. It got better because i had got pregnant 4 months and now she is 3 years old. So , you should wait about 3-4 months to be on the safe side.

I had my miscarriage naturally on April 12th. At first I my ob nurse told me wait two cycles before trying again. After she consulted with the doctor I was told to wait at least one cycle before trying but that often it is best to wait until two. However with my irregularity, that could be several months so we are aiming for one cycle.

    Hi Syak,

I am sooo sorry you had to go through this. I had a miscarriage on 04/11 and my ob told me to wait 3 months before trying again. I still have not had my first period yet, but I am counting down the days before we can start again.

Another thing my ob told me that helped me a bunch was that his wife has been pregnant 10 times. 5 of those pregnancies were miscarriages and 5 were healthy babies.

Wishing you the best of luck in try again.

A Family member of mine had a Tubal Pregnancy similar to a misscarriage, (its when the baby grows in your tubes) The docter told her to try again as soon as she wanted, i was 4 weeks at the time and 8 weeks when she found out she was excepting again we are both now 7&due soon (me due soon and her 7) months and she has had no problems what so ever and has a very healthy baby girl on the way...so you can pretty much try as soon as you want

I had a m/c in Sept 08. I m/c naturally and my Dr told me to wait at least one cycle. We started trying again in Dec and I'm now 25 weeks and due in Sept. I think it depends on how you are feeling and if you are physically and emotionally ready because everyone is different.

(correct me if I'm wrong... which I very well might be) BUT... I think one cycle is the minimum to wait before trying again. Waiting three to four cycles ensures that (as Jess said) you're physically and emotionally strong enough to go through the rollercoaster-of-pregnancy, and not still mourning over your loss (which, I'm very sorry to hear about.)

Whatever you decide to do, I wish you well and hope to see you posting an "I'M PREGNANT!!!!" thread in the near future.

I have had several consecutive miscarriages and have yet to have a successful live birth. I am currently pregnant and am terrified of losing this one too. After each of my prior miscarriages, I have seen a doctor and got three different opinions. The first doc said 2 months/cycles minimum. The second said we should wait at least 2 cycles. The third one said absolutely no less than 3 months. It depends on the doctor. They just say that the longer you wait, the better chance you have of carrying to term. That isn't to say that you can't carry successfully if you don't wait. I know a woman who miscarried and got pregnant right away. She now has three kids and #4 on the way.
