As long as the skin is not readhering to the penis and not causing other problems, I can't see any reason why surgery would be necessary. Of course, a Urologist would know better than me. =)

Riley is in Indianapolis, Indiana. I'm not sure how far away you are from there? I was so impressed with everyone there. The desk girls, all the way to the surgeon. Everyone was SO nice!! You never want your baby to be in a hospital, but if they have to be, I want mine there. I'm from Indiana, so I know a lot of people who have been there for different things and every single person I've talked to has had a great experience. They have ladies who make little hospital gowns and a pillow/toy for when they wake up. It's really a great place.

Hey lou? Who's your son's urologist? We just had an appt today because our son also has "hidden penis". We had our son at MMC and most of them were great. I feel so bad for him having this condition, although he's perfect in every other way.

Lou my son has this i have to pull the skin back to clean it once a day..I have been telling everyone that i don' think it looks right n everyone keeps saying It will right itself when he gets older. One question my sons turtle is always in its shell..(unless i pull back the skin) Is that what your son has. After my sons circ the turtle went back into the shell with all the A & D on it..He was our first so i asked my husband what happened he said dont worry about it..Then when i went to ped. she pulled back skin & out came his peeper A&D and all...I look back n laugh because he's okay now but how was i suppose to know i don't have a penis & he was my first baby. I had never even held a baby before him!

chick magnets mom- my son's urologist is patrick mckenna. we haven't seen him yet but I've heard good things about him. MMC is that memorial medical center? are you in springfield also? how old is your son? what did his urologist say?

toddler mom, I know what you mean. I had lots of experience with babies but they were all girls. I'm hoping it will go away on its own as I've been told. I do feel kinda weird cleaning his weiner though as he thinks it's just the funniest thing ever. it must tickle him or something cause he jsut laughs like crazy. but it has to be done.

My sons pediatrician pretty much told me from the beginning that the dr that did my sons circumcision didn’t take off enough skin. She told me to push it back every time I change his diaper and put petroleum jelly on it. She said he may grow into the extra skin but if not he may need another circumcision. My son is now almost 15 months old and he still has a little extra skin but its not bad at all. His pedi isn’t worried about it at all now she said its fine. I still pull the skin back for every diaper change though because it does still stick sometimes.

Hi Lou, I hope your loved one doesn't have to have surgery!

I've been watching this thread for a while & I couldn't remember where I had heard/seen the term 'hidden penis', but was sure I had seen it in our circ research. My son is intact and we do not pull anything back to clean him (we wipe him down like you'd wipe off a finger...) I don't know if you are supposed to clean underneath the skin since the foreskin wouldn't function the same as far as an un-compromised penis. From the links below, hidden penis can be a side effect of circumcision. It may be higher in the midwest due to the higher rate of routine infant circumcisions that are performed here. My son was born in Terre Haute, IN and I've heard VERY good things from many individuals who have had to go to Riley Hospital as well. FWIW, my daughter was born at St. John's Hospital in Springfield IL and if she had been born a boy, would have been circ'ed because I didn't do any research on it before she was born. I mainly put the links down here in case any ladies/gents were interested in researching circumcision.

Lou, my son has the same problem. He's 6mths old, 18.9 lbs, and 28 inches long. The dr also told me that he had a lot of pubic fat and that is what is pushing the body of the penis forward. I thought that his circumcision was done improperly. The dr also told me that it would correct itself, but it hasn't. Please let me know what your urologist says.

    Thanks

sorry it took so long to get back on here. it's been a hell of a week. lucien got an ear infection and conjunctivitus, was put on amoxicillan, then we found out he's allergic to that. he broke out in itchy hives literally from head to toe. there were hives in his hair to the bottoms of his feet. what's next?!!

anyway, we went to the urologist last week. it really wasn't a good or very informative meeting. the doctor was in and out. now I understand they are busy, but I reserved the time and they're getting paid so answer my damn questions. well he looked at my son and just told me to push around the sides so it comes out when I change his diaper (duh). he also told me I didn't need to clean there as the head of the penis is super sensative? I don't know about that though, i guess though it gets clean in the tub. he said my son doesn't have any extra skin he needs every inch of it, so it's not his circumcision. he told me to make another appointment in a year and we'll go from there. he said if it doesn't correct itself in a year they'll have to operate on it. my son will be around 19 months a year from now when we go back, so I guess it takes awhile for it to correct itself. I asked about the procedure, inpatient /outpatient, anesthetics, risks, etc...
the answer I got was that "it's no big deal a simple out patient procedure see ya next year". so as far as what exactly they'll do, I don't know.

    Talking Penis

My sons penis goes into hiding. If you pull the skin back then it pops out. Was he circumcised? You need to pull the skin down and break the mucous lining so it breaks down and clean it often! eventually it will look "normal" they are so little it is hard to tell what it should look like!

    Talking dont worry

My son had the same problem. He was born with extra skin and the dr. said it was very hard to do the circumcision. He told me that he would probably grow into it and that if they redid the circumcision they might take too much off and erections would be very painful for him. After two trips to the emergency room because the skin attached to the head (lot of swelling and even bleeding), he grew into it. It looks totally normal now. It took three years but well worth the wait.
