My 5 month old has the same thing. His doc says that it's normal and he will grow into it. When I change his diaper I just push on the sides and it pops out so I can clean it. He seems to think this is EXTREMELY amusing. When we had our 2nd sonogram the doc said he was DEFINATELY a boy. We're confident that he'll grow into it and it won't be a problem. Try not to worry!!

This sounds very familiar! My son has a hidden penis. The doctors always said he would outgrow it. The pad of fat...... etc. He was never a heavy baby, but now has gained a little weight- hoping for a growth spurt. He is now 10 years old and hasn't outgrown it! We have an appt and will probably opt for the surgery. Hopefully, I'll have a better experience than yours! That was terrible! If I could turn back time, I'd get this surgery earlier. I kept listening to his doctors, the experts. School could be difficult when you have to urinate in front of peers, or go into a stall. He has had to have the skin pulled back because it re-adhered to his penis, rashes, but no infections, etc. Be brave, but be vocal. Wish I'd been more vocal.

my3sons- that's awful. I can't imagine how that's been for your son, being in school and all. must have been embarrasing for him. I hope he does okay in surgery. I will definately keep this in mind when I go back in april. I think it will be easier for my son to have the corrections made when he's little than to wait. I'm still hoping that by april it will correct itself though. but if not I don't want him to experience the cruelty of his peers and have to still have surgery later in life. I'll wait till it's time for him to go to school to correct itself but no longer.

My sons does this, however it does come out at times. I'm hopeing that he just grows into it and that the damn doc (sorry didnt like him) didnt leave to much skin on there.

I know that this post is a few years old, however, I have been searching so much and you are the only one I have seen with a son my sons age. My son also has a buried penis and has been followed by a pediatric Urologist for a few years now. At first they thought the problem might fix itself, but now they are encouraging surgery. His surgery is in a week and a half. I can't seem to be ok with him having the surgery, as I am sure it is all anxiety and worry about after the surgery and the pain he will experience. I know that he needs the surgery, he goes to middle school next year and is already self-consciouse (sp?). I would like to know if your son did have the surgery and how he did with it. I haven't found anyone that has had the surgery so I hope to hear from you. Thanks.

I am so glad I found this thread. My son will be 7 and we have the same issue. We have been told for years that this will correct itself but it has not gotten any better. He ha to have a recirc when he was 1 and I don't know if that had anything to do with it, but we have an appointment with the ped urologist on 5/12 and may have to consider surgery. It breaks my heart at the self esteem issues he may already be facing. I wish we had done something sooner but we kept being told it was fine, just a fat pad. We is see a ped urologist a year ago an he said it wasn't that bad, an would be condsidered cosmetic. So now we are getting a second opinion. I also would like to heat how the surgery went and what we may expect. Thanks!

my son is 9, he was born with a mild form of distal epispadias and had his urethral opening corrected at 6 months. and supposedly he just has a small penis related to that, but pictures and stories I've seen, it seems to fall under the category of hidden penis. we keep trying to find people to talk to who have gone through this, because our pediatric urologist and pediatrician keep saying wait until puberty to see if it pops out. meanwhile we fret about what he will go through in the locker rooms in high school and what a scorned girlfriend could do to him, I can hear the rumors. I don't worry about it as much as his dad does, because frankly, I don't think about genitalia all the time like men do! LOL! He was born like this, we were immediately sent off to see specialists, and it's just been written off as a congenital abnormality, nothing we can do. He is a skinny little guy too, and he does have a fat pad but it's not a bulging one, and it could be normal, I don't know, I only have one little boy. I'm just looking for someone to relate with.

My 12 year old son had surgery for a hidden penis 8 days ago. So far, it is healing well, and I am so glad we did this. I didn't even know about this - I don't know why his pediatrician didn't recognize this at a younger age. I made an appt. with her to discuss this after he was having a hard time with the size - peer issues, etc. She referred us to a FABULOUS pediatric urologist. I HIGHLY recommend you see a pediatric urologist, one that has done these surgeries, so that you really feel confident as to whether or not your son needs this surgery. I wish I had investigated this earlier. So far, everything is fine, and I wish we had done this sooner (maybe not too soon) - I don't know about the timing. I just can't believe I didn't know that there was even such a thing as hidden penis. I just thought his was a little small and that it "hid" a lot. It took his worrying about it for me to realize that I needed to look into this. I wish I could have saved him that worry and stress.

I was just wondering what the END result ended up being for a lot of you, especially Lou. My son is 13 months old and we are currently getting ready to set up surgery. His "hidden penis" as the peditrican called it....only has a 50% chance of going away has he gets older. Being a teacher, I know how mean middle school children are...and that percentage is not worth it to us for all the ridicule and self esteem issues are son will face. As it is, we barely let anyone know about it, to save him ridicule or teasing from just family members. I was wondering if anyone has ever had the surgery because the surgeron described it as having sunburn on his penis for two weeks and it will be one of the most painful experiences our son will ever go through....but as it stands his skin is readhering to the tip of the penis and bloody and awful lot...so I am worried that infections or anything else will happen to make him more uncomfortable. I am just so worried and wanted to hear some after surgery stories....
