    Default hidden penis

My son has an appointment with a urologist the 1 of april to take a look at his hidden penis. I was just wondering if any one else had to deal with this and whether the problem corrected itself or if not what had to be done. his dr has been telling me it's this way cause there's so much fat around there it pushes his skin over it, but as he grows it should correct itself. but at his last dr appointment she said she wanted the urologist to look at it cause though my son is a big boy he's not rolly polly, so she's wondering why it hasn't yet corrected itself. my son is nearly 7 months now and weighs 19 1/2 lbs and he's 28.5 inches long. she's under the impression that by now it should have corrected itself as he's pretty long and lean. I just wanted to know what to expect here. she said the urologist will likely just keep an eye on him and if it doesn't correct itself soon he'll have to correct it.

Neither of my boys had this, but I found this. Hope it helps.

hey thanks cay! it's nice to know I'm not the only one. my sons dr. did say it's a fairly common occurance with big baby boys, so I'm not that concerned and she did say more often than not it corrects itself. I was just wondering what happens if it doesn't I guess or to call on other's experiences. the site you gave was reassuring as in almost every case it did correct itself later on.

Has he had a UTI yet? I'm betting that's the #1 concern. I'm sure he'll grow out of it eventually. Good luck!

nope, no infections of any sort. I'm just hoping he grows out of it. I can't imagine putting my baby through corrective surgery. his dr. doesn't really seemed too concerned about it. she said this urologist that we're going to see told her for some reason this problem is more common here in the midwest than anywhere else he's been. I have no idea why. it's not genetic, it's not a defect of any sort, and it's not related to his circumcision. I was just told that it happens because they have that little fat pad around there and it just pushes the skin over the head of the penis and as they grow and thin out it corrects itself most of the time. I really hope it corrects itself but it is kinda nice cause when you're changing his diaper you can always tell when he's about to pee cause it pokes out, so it gives you a second or two to duck and cover!

Early warning system... oh I wish I had one of those! I get sneak attacks all the time... except when I'm prepared for it.
This evening he needed a diaper change about 10 minutes before bath time (it wasn't because he had peed either). Since it's warm, I figured what the heck, I'll leave the diaper off of him, air out his butt a little. But I figured I'd be prepared and have a receiving blanket under him in case he decided to aim and fire. He never did. But this morning... when I had to change the diaper because he had peed, I suddenly see the stream shot off to my left. I had the diaper in my hand still.
I'm strange, I figure if he just peed, he probably doesn't need to again, so he won't. I should know better, I really should.

i didn't know anything about this until you posted it and i looked it up. my son's penis disappears sometimes! i just figured it was normal and would say something funny to my DH like, "oh the little turtle went back in!" sometimes it's out, sometimes it's in! i never knew anything about 'hidden penis'. i wonder if my son has that too.

My son's penis was hidden as well. My doctor kept telling me it was because he was chubby, but that was wrong. He really isn't all that chubby. He's a big baby, but not a rolly baby. One of my nephews had a hidden penis due to being rolly, and it was not the same. My son actually had problems with his. I knew to pull the foreskin back to clean underneath, but it would get adhered to the head. They pulled it off three times which was horrible for my son. She finally sent me to a Urologist at Riley Children's hospital in Indianapolis. The Urologist there informed me that there was not enough skin taken off during his circumcision and with the way the skin was laying, it would continue to adhere itself to the head. She redid the circumcision on March 5th. Tomorrow will be two weeks since he had his surgery and it looks perfect. I feel so good knowing that he will never have to go through the pain of pulling the skin off again. Lou, if your Urologist thinks he does need to have corrective surgery, I highly recommend Riley Children's Hospital. Everyone there is absolutely WONDERFUL! My son was cranky the day of surgery, but slept good that night and when he woke up the following day, you never would have guessed anything had happened. I hope your son doesn't have to have surgery. In fact, it doesn't sound like the same thing. (My son's penis never poked out. It was in 100% of the time, unless I pulled the skin back myself.) The Urologist at Riley also told me that it is very common for them not to get enough skin when performing a circ on a newborn. I didn't know how common it was until now. I hope it all goes well for you. If you have any questions, I'll try to help with what I can. =)

I read recently that they don't take as much skin off as they used to. also you know how some men's penis will curve to the side? that's because they used to take off too much skin I guess. my son's penis has never readhered to the skin. I'm hoping this will mean no surgery. like your son though mine's not rolly either. he's big but not rolly. that's why his dr. is sending us to the urologist. It's comforting to know though that the surgery isn't that bad. where is riley children's hospital BTW.
my son's urologist is at st. john's in springfield. they are renound for their NICU. but when I had my son on the mother and babies ward some of the nurses were kinda bitchy and my dr. never even showed up for my emergency c-section, he said he was 5 minutes away when the time came. but he didn't show up till the next day and then didn't really do anything but tell me my son was beautiful and big (DUH!).
