    Default Breastfeeding and Pregnant

So we just found out that I'm pregnant. I have a little girl who's just shy of 6 months old who is breast fed. She's also allergic to milk and so the formula we would have to buy is like twice as much as the normal kind for a small container. I've been reading on kellymom about nursing while pregnant and it mostly talks about nursing toddlers while pregnant.

I'm looking for anyone who has any experience with nursing while pregnant and if they have any advice, help or suggestions for me. I could use any help you have!! Thanks!

I've been where you are, and you should be able to breastfeed while pregnant without any problems. My second son was 6 1/2 months old when I got pregnant with number three. I successfully nursed him until he was a year old. I talked to my OB before I even had my first appointment, and her suggestions were this- Drink, drink, drink! Increase your calcium and protein intake (make sure you are adding calories for the breastfeeding and pregnancy). Make sure to take care of yourself- eat healthy, prenatal vitamin, rest, etc. because it is a lot of work! I'd make sure to let your OB know your situation incase they want you doing anything specific, but if you are otherwise having a healthy pregnancy, you can definitely do it. Good luck with everything and congrats!

One last thought- give some thought to if/when you would want to wean your current nurser. I didn't want a nursing toddler and a newborn, so I made sure to wean him at a year. That gave him a few months before his younger brother came along. If you are going to nurse both, good for you, but I'd make sure you aren't trying to add weaning to the adjustments a sibling goes through when a new baby arrives.
