My 27 month old daugher keeps taking off her diaper at naptime and bedtime. We have gone to putting ducttape over the tabs but she is now pulling the sides apart to get the diaper off. I am at my wit's end. The diaper is sometime dry or barely even wet. Then she ends up wetting her sheets instead. She has gone on the potty a few times but she doesn't really seem mature enough yet to do potty training full blown. She is still in crib as she hasn't tried even once to climb out of it. Please any suggestions.
I could have written this post exactly (except for the duct tape). My 21 mth old does the same thing, and she too is not quite ready for potty training. She also does it whether the diaper is wet or dry. I came to the conclusion this is a "I learned a new trick" type of thing. When I put her down now she MUST be in an all in one sleeper so that she cannot get to the diaper! I also started putting her in the pullups at night with the velcro that goes along the side. This helped b/c there are no tabs to try to get undone...... although I must admit, when I finally undress her it is really funny watching her grab for the tabs that aren't there and looking really confused b/c she cant figure it out!!! I also make sure to listen closely to the monitor so I can go in to get her as soon as she wakes, before she has a chance to be devious and make her bed into a pond!
Thank you. that is great idea with the pull ups. I am wondering if it is a "new game/trick" for Liv too. I also run whenever I hear the velcro "rip" sound on the monitor but I don't always hear it. It is nice to know i'm not alone in this struggle. My wiggler unzips herself out of one piece pjs. Always keepin mommy on her toes.
I noticed you are new here. This is a really great place to get ideas from other moms. I have found it to be a very useful resource and a fun place to visit at the same time. All the moms here are non-judgemental and use it to get ideas, share funny stories, or just vent when they're feeling overwhelmed! Anyway, I just wanted to say welcome!
Oh, and by the way, I have also heard of some moms actually turning the all in one pj's around backwards so their little Houdini's cant get them off. They cut a small "V" in the back... which is now in the front.... so it doesn't come up too high on their neck. I haven't tried that yet, but thought I would share it with you
Our daughter also did this at 17 months. The phase lasted for over 6 months and is very frustrating. Take a look at http://mookimoo.com. You'll find sleepwear that specifically addresses this phase.
My daughter went through this phase of taking off her clothes. She took off her sleeper at nap time and before I got to her in the mornings - what a mess! We tried putting a sleeper on backwards but she was able to stretch the neck and get to the zipper. What a little houdini! A friend gave me information about a sleeper that kids can't stretch the neck and can't move the zipper down. I gave the sleeper a try. Yahoo! Something finally stopped her from doing this. It's called the Little Keeper Sleeper - check it out. It worked right away and I never had to clean another dirty crib! The website is www.littlekeepersleeper.com. This sleeper ROCKS!!
My 24 month old daughter is doing the same thing. Actually just tonight she screamed from her crib and I went to check on her and she handed me her diaper and her pajama pants. She gets out of the all in one pajamas too. Luckily no #2s but it is a pain to have to change her sheets almost every night. I just found out about the little keeper sleepers and I think we are going to try that because my husband does want to resort to duct tape but I feel that will not be successful either. I am also not sure if she is ready for potty training, she has gone once or twice on the potty but is confused because she tells me after she has already pottied in her diaper.
