    Unhappy hitting

Is it normal for my 20 month old son to hit every time he's frustrated? We always give him warnings and then time outs if he does it, but i worry that he has some type of behavior problem.

To my understanding, its not only normal, but very common. At this point he knows what he wants but doesnt know how to tell you so he gets frustrated. Its a communication thing. You are doing the right thing with disciplining him. He has to know that it is not ok to hit, period. Something I found that helped my daughter throw less fits (she is only 13 months), is baby sign language. I only taught her things she would want to tell me on a regular basis like milk, bath, teddy, all done, eat, cup, please, etc. It really helped her alot...and me! lol
