    Unhappy Circumcision Lawsuit!!!

Hi, I'm a first time stay-at-home mom of a 10 month old baby boy. I recently took my son to his 10 month check-up and his pediatrician took his diaper off to see how things look down there, and she said he would need to be re-circumsized and that he would have to wait till he is 1 year old to do the surgery. I asked her why and she said because the dumb doctor that did it while I was in recovery from my ceserean delivery, did it wrong. I'm soo scared for him because he is much older and more aware of things and i know he'll be in pain and at risk of an infection. I'm thinking about filing a lawsuit against the doctor who did this to my poor baby, but I have to find out who did it, I'm pretty sure his name should be in my son's hospital records, I just have to look for them. They told me I would have to file a complaint first. I'm soo nervous about this, but I'm a mother now and I can't just let these kind of things slide. Has anybody ever gone through this, and if so how did you handle it, please, I need some opinions and help???????

OK, first I know your in a small state of panic, calm down. If anything was really wrong he wouldnt be peeing. NEXT is there another peditrician in that practice so you can get a second or even third opinion. (we see a group practice). Then ask them for a full print out of his entire medical history and has the hospital for the report from the surgery including any nurses notes before or after. Next if they did it while you where in recover did you even sign for it to happen? If not that is another thing to add to the list. Finally after you have everything, including the peds report stating the redo, look online in lawcases to see what has been done before. Finally find a lawyer, I say finally so you have everything, feel confident, and dont waste money. Good Luck, I hope everything is ok.

I would find out if the doctor who did the procedure "did it wrong" or just didn't take as much foreskin as needed. I believe that in the case of caution, it is not uncommon for not enough to be taken the first time round and more is taken later.

I aslo would recommend not worrying too much about your son until that second opinion...My brother was adopted at 6 months so not circumsized at all until he was a year old. I remember my father and the neighbor man next door staring at him in his highchair and whimpering for him in sympathy...He was happily playing with his cheerios and didn't notice anything was wrong. The local pain killer worked wonders and he healed quickly. Within a week, it was like it had never happened...

As Kare.bear says it's very common for doctors to act cautiously when they circumcise. In most cases they take enough foreskin, but on rare occasions they don't and the circumcision is redone at 1year. It's much better in that direction than in the other.
It happened to my nephew and he was absolutely fine after his second circumcision. He was uncomfortable for a couple days, but nothing traumatic. The procedure is quick and routine.
Also, speaking as the wife of a personal injury lawyer, I'm willing to bet any doctor will tell you that there is just no case there. The problem at this point is more aesthetic. Your child is healthy and unharmed so there's probably nothing a lawyer could do for you.
Hang in there, soon this will be a story you laugh about. Like when we laugh about the pediatrician who opened my nephew's diaper and asked if he was circumcised. Not a great way to convince us that he was the best doctor in the house...

I'm sure by now things have settled a little at your house and the original shock and panic has abated. I'm not going to address the lawsuit issue as I have no experience with that.
Rest assured however that the surgery isn't as bad as you may think. My son was almost two when he was recircumcised. Some bands of scar tissue had developed and our pediatrician recommended having them removed. We went to a pediatric urologist associated with the children's hospital in our city. We barely had time to sit down in the waiting room before the doctor came out to give us a report. There did not seem to be a lot of pain and my son enjoyed the few days of special attention. The hardest part was not letting him eat until the surgery and then trying to keep an active two year old quiet for a day. It is always scary to have a child go through surgery no matter how "minor". If you get a second opinion and if possible are able to use a pediatric specialist, I think many of your concerns will be addressed. Don't be afraid to ask questions.
    Good Luck!

Hopefully you have heard better news by now.
Also realize that there are other forms of follow up with the doctor. You could file a complaint with the Medical Board of your state, or the American Medical Association or the pediatric association the doctor may be listed with IF you find s/he really did mess up. That would give warning to other parents that they don't want to deal with the person, and that really sounded like your goal.
God bless you and your family!

I guess I'd just be asking if a second circ was really even necessary. If it's just a little extra skin, he should be just fine.... In any case, I'm sorry you're going through this. Long distance hugs to you...

Why are all you parents allowing money-hungry doctors tomutilate your baby boys by circumcising them? More and more young men are suing doctors, hospitals and even parents when they turn 18, for removing a very important part of their sexuality when they were too young to protest. Google "lawsuit for circumcision" to see how many of these lawsuits are(finally) happening. Examples:

This is on my list of stupidest things I've heard today.
I cannot for the life of me believe that anyone would really sue as an adult over being circumcised. Honestly. Every guy I've ever known who is circumcised is GLAD for it. For a lot of reasons.
Go poll random guys on the street. I bet you can't find ONE single one who says "Man I wish I wasn't circumcised."
    Circumcision is far from mutilation.
