    Default Need some help ...

I just received a crib mattress for free from freecycle.org. ( LOVE FREECYCLE!) My question is ... now that I have it I'm feeling a bit squeemish! Of course my husband starts taking about dust mites, fleas, bed bugs etc. There isn't any stains on it. Its in like new condition. What would you do? Would you use it? would you try to sanitize it somehow? How would you do that? ... or would you trust your instincts that its fine, put a mattress cover on it and call it a day?

I know our crib matress is waterproof - if your matress is waterproof, I would take it into the bath tub and wash it down good with bleach water and let it dry overnight. Good as new.

If it's not waterproof, I would be sqweemish about using it. JMO.

I agree...If it's waterproof I'd give it a good wash but if it's not???I don't know if I'd use it or not??Maybe steam cleaning it would be an option??I would try that..

I, too, love Freecycle. I would recomend washing it if possible. Also, I would put a waterproof matress cover on it...the kind that goes over the whole mattress and zips up.

Brandie - I know your due date is coming soon and you will be real busy with Olivia once she is here, but try to let us know when she is born, and how things went with your labor, delivery, etc. Hope you have a good birth experience!!! We'll be waiting to hear of her arrival!! Good Luck!

    Thanks I will!

OK I picked up the mattress and the whole thing is covered in a Vinyl cloth - I guess like a pic-nic table cloth. So I'm guessing that makes it cleanable. Made me feel much better about it though. I think I had decided that if I picked it up and it was a plush cloth covered mattress I wouldn't be able to do it. ( Especially when we were bought one - I just figured if I could return it and use the money to buy something we didn't get ... why not! )

Thanks for all of your replies!
