Question gender selection books and information

I am the mother of 3 boys and my husband and I have made the decision to try one more time to get the beautiful baby girl that I've been dreaming about for years. I have been researching the natural gender selection techniques and wanted to get some information from those who have been there and done that (and who are NOT trying to sell anything). I read the information on Ashley Spencer's website and I felt compelled to buy the book...but her words were really appealing to my emotions. Shettles seems complicated and many others contradict one another. Needless to say, I'm perplexed.

Any advice would be much appreciated! I'm thinking pink!!!! :-)

    Hi,
I don't have personal experiance with natural gender selection, but I have heard of the Shettles method and have friends who have used it and been successful. Now the shettles method has a lot about diet, sexual positions etc, but the basis is differences in sperm by gender. From what I understand, the gist is that male sperm are fast but have a short life span, female sperm are slow but live longer and can survive more acidic environments. Keeping in mind an egg only lives for 24 hrs post ovulation, to have a boy you would have sex the day before or on the day of ovulation, and avoid sex during the 4 to 5 days before you ovulate. Opposite for a girl, have sex during 2-3 days before predicted ovulation so the slower girl sperm have a better chance of fertilizing the egg. Of course you really have to be confident in tracking your ovulation if you use this method. It doesn't sound bogus to me and I know it worked for a friend of mine who wanted a boy. This is not an exact science so I wouldn't spend a lot of money on it, but I would certainly consider buying a book or doing some online research. Good luck! (P.S. I'm hoping for a girl too!)

I'm curious if you purchased Ashley Spencer's book and what you thought. I too am considering purchasing it.

I've researched a few of these gender selection books and am skeptical why you can't buy her book anywhere but this website. Is it even a book or just an email copy? Also the website gives a lot of information and is convincing but I'm not sure I buy who is really "behind" the web site.

I've also heard about Chinese gender chart, not quite as scientific as Shettler method. But people claim 90% success using the calendar. Has anyone here tried it out?

The Chinese birth chart was wrong for me. It is more helpful to look at the calendar with the percentages next to it. If I look at the chart posted on this page, it says I should have a had a girl; when I had a boy. But when I look at the percentages next to the actual calendar, it says it was a 50 - 50 chance for me. By the way, there is a difference in the calendar from the chart. The calendar goes by lunar months while the chart just kind of sums it up with the "most likely" scenarios. Hope this helps.

The Shettles method worked for me with my first baby (girl) and for my neighbors who wanted 1 girl and 1 boy (which they got). This time around I wasn't charting as acuratly (sp?) yet (I wasn't doing practice cycles, and I had only semicharted the month before without trying), but I was doing the cough syrup thing because I have thick mucus which makes for a hostile environment for the sperm. I actually didn't think I was successful at first that month because I was doing BBT and thought I had missed the window. This would have made sense if I got pregnant with a boy, which I did.

According to some calenders I was supposed to have a boy with my DD and a boy this time as well (which is correct now) and others it was the opposite for my first but the same for this one.

The Chinese Birth Chart is wrong for us too, maybe we need the Korean version. However some "old wives tales" held true more often than not.

I don't know Shettles, but this pretty much did apply:

    Timing of Intercourse

In order to have a boy insemination should occur as close as possible to the moment of ovulation so that the faster, Y-sperm arrive first and achieve conception, according to the theory. When seeking a girl insemination the couple should seek to have sex 2½ to 3 days before ovulation.

    Sexual Position

Shallow penetration coupled with the sperm deposited close to the entrance favors female conception because the area is more acidic, which inhibits the weaker Y sperm, according to the theory. To allow the Y sperm to reach the egg first (which supposedly moves at a faster rate), deeper penetration should be sought, to deposit the sperm at the least acidic area near the uterus opening.
Both the timing and the "position" in our case would favor a boy. And ... it's a boy. For what that's worth.

In the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" I have seen what others have referred to as "Shettle's method". In the TCOYF book it says something like (this is from memory, I read the book 2 years ago from the library) you have an 80% chance of getting the boy you want and 70% of the girl you want.

This book tells you how to chart your fertility so you know when you have ovulated (by taking your temperature, you see a spike the day after you ovulated) and by checking your cerviacal fluid (it is clear and streatchy when you are getting ready to ovulate) and your cervix (it is high and open when you are ready to ovulate). In the book "Taking Charge of Your Own Fertility" by Toni Weschler I have seen what others have referred to as "Shettle's method". In the TCYF book it says something like (this is from memory, I read the book 2 years ago from the library) you have an 80% chance of getting the boy you want and 70% of the girl you want.

This book tells you how to chart your fertility so you know when you have ovulated (by taking your temperature, you see a spike the day after you ovulated) and by checking your cervical fluid (it is clear and stretchy when you are getting ready to ovulate) and your cervix (it is high and open when you are ready to ovulate). As soon as you notice the ovulation signs from you cervix have sex for a day or two, then stop, if you want a girl - might take a few months to do this right, because you are banking on the fact that girl sperm will live long enough for you to ovulate.

Good luck, I do suggest you check the book out at the library and visit the website http://www.tcoyf.com/ - they probably have a section on choosing the sex of your baby.

Default Prince or Princess Guide worked for me

I followed the natural baby gender selection methods in the "Prince or Princess Guide" and they worked for me twice.

The methods were super easy to follow... tracking your ovulation and timing your intercourse, certain sexual positions for a boy, others for a girl, and some changes to your diet.

From memory the success rate of this guide is around 95% and that's across thousands of couples.

Has anyone else had success with it?
