    Default The *Worst* Kid's Movie

Personally, I love kid's movies. Mary Poppins is one of my all-time faves, and I never miss a Pixar masterpiece.

The good ones are easy to spot, but what about the bad ones?

What’s the worst kid movie you’ve ever had to sit through? What made it so terrible?

I have several but here are two on my mind right now:
    1. Hoodwinked- This has many adult humor concepts that I dont think young children would understand. Other than 'silly' animals I dont think young children would 'get it'.
    2. Horton Hears a Who- If you have ever tried to read a Dr. Suess book to a preschooler you know that by the end of the book they are rather antsy. The same goes for the movies. They are long for children and this particular movie had several slow scenes that my 4-year-old drifted off during. Also some parts were a little too scary and again my dd covered her eyes. Just not the greatest for very young children.
Here are my daughters favorites she watches all the time:
My little pony, El Dorado, Cars, Little Rascals, Alladin, Tinker Bell, Secret of Nimh (but hides during scary parts), Dora, Chipmunks, Nemo.
    Ginger
Proud mommy to Corbin:7, autism/epilepsy; Kayla:5, my bff; and Collin: 9/10/09. M.Ed. Early Childhood. Wife to my OT hubby. Breastfeeding, babywearin, home cookin SAHM.

The worst kids movie I have ever sat through had to be "The Cat and the Hat"! I love Dr.Seuss!! I am a kindergarten teacher and Dr.Seuss is big in our world but that movie was horrible! It had way to much adult humor, as well as, too many pop culture cliches and I honestly think the makers of that movie tried WAY to hard to make it funny!

    Smile Company issue

I think its more the Producers you have to watch out for, Disney is normally A-Oh-k and so is Dreamworks but sometimes WB or another group will come out with a movie and I'll insist on seeing it before I let anyone else. Now I'm not saying disney and dreamworks are without there flaws, even though Skreik is funny I would think twice before letting a younge child watch it and I don't care for princess movies ether, I think they focus to much on beauty without even thinking about it. ANYWAY this turned into a rant without me even noticeing so sorry haha.

    Default Worst Kids Movie ever

I think the worst kids movie is Willy Wonka, with Gene Wilder. It is very creepy for a child to watch. Willy Wonka seems like a drug addicted, pedophile. And not to mention how frightening the oompa-loompa's were. Not the type of movie I want my kids to watch (and they never have). At least in the re-make, Willy seems like a big kid and not scary.

My son loves Horton! He laughs his ass off when Horton first jumps in the river. I don't know why that part is so funny, but it is. I try to only watch kids movies that I can stand too, but I do have a hard time with the live action Chipmunks. I think Jason Lee did a terrible job and it could have been much better. Now my son is on a big Ratatouille kick and I have to watch it all the time. He also likes musicals. Loves the new Hairspray.

    Default So bad it's... bad

Not a well-known movie (why would it be?) but for 2 Christmases in a row my toddler nephew has been obsessed with 'Rudolph and the Island of Misfit Toys', a low-rent CGI sequel to a classic claymation holiday movie. The old one is supposed to be cute, but this one is boring, poorly made, and the songs and are so bad they probably fall foul of the Geneva convention.

Of course, if it has bright colors and animals, a small kid will want to watch it over and over. So the whole family had to sit through it again and again (parents weren't happy but it was grandma's house and she lets the boy do anything). By the end, we were all going nuts. Except grandma, who thought the boy was a genius for being able to identify his favorite characters (i.e. yelling their name in a loud voice every time they appeared on screen).

I'm expecting my first kid this year and it's a useful lesson to me - you gotta LOVE a movie to let your kids watch it, cos if they like it, you'll be watching it a LOT.

Oh, and grandma NEVER gets to choose their movies. EVER.

To be honest I think this sort of thing is worse than potentially scary movies e.g. Willy Wonka, because if you know your kids and know the movie you can choose if it's right for them. I loved Willy Wonka as a kid, probably because I watched it at that age where you think sappy stuff is for babies and you want something with a bit of a thrill to it. And quality-wise, it is a good movie with some very great performances and songs. Gene Wilder may be creepy but he's brilliant.

But there's no excuse for badly-made movies, no matter what the audience.
