My daughter started doing the same thing at that age. She is 1 now. At 9 months she was throwing herself on the floor and throwing crazy fits. I just completely ignored her and it didnt last long. They are looking for a reaction, good or bad. So I didnt give her one at all. I have a safety gate in my kitchen so I would just go in the kitchen and close the gate and start doing the dishes or something. She would stand outside the gate and cry and finish her fit. When she stopped I would say "all done"? And pick her up and talk to her about why that is not ok. She didnt understand but I talk to her all the time anyway.

Also, he may be crying when you leave the room because he hasnt fully learned that you will always come back. Tell him when you leave the room "Ill be right back". And play peek a boo with him, it teaches object permanence (even though I cant see you I know you are still there).

    Good Luck!

I totally agree that they are just wanting to get a reaction out of you good or bad? If they see that you get upset then they know that they have got you and they know what to do to get your attention. I would totally ignore them until they stop. But i would make sure there is nothing that can hurt them. My nephew use to get so upset he would throw himself backwards onto the ground or bang his head on stuff. Suprisingly... he is totally normal. Also, when my 3 year old use to do it, i use to just walk away and i would say " i can't hear you when you are being bad". He's almost four now and i still have to tell him that sometimes but usually after i say it he wipes his eyes and calms down and tells me what he is showing out about. Maybe this will help you.
