Default What Were Your Baby's First Words?

In the December issue of Babytalk, we discuss baby's first words.

According to the MacArthur foundation, the top-10 first words (around 13-18 months) for American babies tend to be:

    1. Dada
    2. Mama
    3. BaBa
    4. Bye
    5. Hi
    6. Uh-Oh
    7. Grr
    8. Bottle
    9. YumYum
    10. Dog

Is this true for your baby? What other words were among their first?

My twins said Dada for four straight months. Their second word was Pupa. (puppies) They didn't start saying Mama for what seemed like forever!

well my baby isn't even born yet but my first word isn't one of the "common" ones. My mother told me the first word was no that's all i said for awhile actually to her great disapproval.

My son's first word was "Mama" followed by "DaDa". He also says, "Yay!" (while clapping his hands), and "Boo" (when we play peakaboo with him)

He says "Baba" and "Hi" and he sometimes even sings "lalala"(that's usually in the car with the radio).

And...13-18 months? Mine just turned 10 months! I think he says quite a lot. He is at that stage where he attempts to copy everything we say and we work with him as lot when it comes to words.

He says the words "Dada" and "Yay!" the most.

I thought it was interesting that "Yay!" wasn't on their first words list. It was like my son's third word. I am still trying to get him to say "bye". Currently his favorite thing to do is scream...but "AHHHH!" is not on that list either.
