Hey everybody,
I have a well behaved 5 year old except for about once a week she has a complete meltdown. She is literally saying excuse me, washes her hands, picks up her toys 95% of the time. But when she has a meltdown it is a full blown crisis. I usually escalate punishments starting with a warning and progressing from time out to her room. If she refuses to stay in timeout she is sent to her room, which of course she refuses. She will stand in the entryway and kick the wall. This leads to me physically placing her on her bed and holding her there. The meltdown last anywheres from 10 minutes to 30. I feel like there has to be a better way then physically restraining her or even better preventing the blow up. I think a part of it is boredom, but unfortunately there is not much I can do to alleviate that.
