    Default Toddler Bed Help Needed!

My 18 month old is very tall for his age and can get out of his crib already, even at the lowest setting! His pediatrician says we must convert the crib to the toddler bed but we worry that emotionally and intellectually he is not ready.

Until we do the conversion (we need a baby gate for his room that we have being shipped to us) does any one have any specific suggestions as to mats or foam that will prevent him from being injured when he does climb out? We have been very lucky so far that he had not been hurt?

What about preventing injury from the toddler bed? Any advice as to roll-out prevention or anything we can put on the floor?

We already know we need to make sure to baby proof his room to make sure that if he gets up without us knowing, that he cannot get into any trouble. Of course, we do have a baby monitor.

Thank you so much all! I am just so nervous since I have read babies should be in a crib until age 3?!?!

We switched our daughter to her toddler bed when she was a little over 1.5 years (mainly because I was pregnant and we wanted to use the crib for the impending baby).

The toddler bed we got from Babies R Us has rails that go about 1/4 of the way down the side. I know you can also get other such safety rails for use on regular beds, but maybe you can use them in a toddler bed, too?

As for something to put on the floor, our daughter's room is carpeted. She has fallen out of bed several times, but the distance is not that far and, even though she cried, she was more shocked than anything and was easily comforted back to sleep.

Thanks, Liana. I was talking to my girlfriend and she gave me some good advice which we are using now. Since the one rail is lower than the other and the crib is up against the wall, we just turned it around! Now it is too high for him and it buys us some time!

He was a bit confused when he woke up this morning though!
