Default Leash or No Leash: Any Alternatives?

I have a 2 year old who is slightly adventurous (okay, maybe a bit more than slightly). I know there's a huge debate with the whole leash thing. I've also found two other products, Safety Slap (an QR code in a slap bracelet) and Safety Tat (a temporary tatoo and a non-toxic marker). Any thoughts on any of these products or other alternatives?

I too had a very adventurous and curious two year old who left me at a drop of a hat. My heart sank one afternoon while shopping at a department store with my two year old daughter and my mother. We were surprised to find that she was not with either one of us. We quickly looked everywhere in the store to find her. She was not too far away under a clothing rack playing. I told myself right then I had to keep her safe and with me at all times. I thought of a leash, but wait, when I used to see children on leashes I thought that the child must be wild or the parent was just too busy to keep them with her/him safely. Now could I with good conscience put my daughter on a leash? Yes, I did and was happy to know she would be safe with me while wearing it. But, one day while out shopping, I soon found myself holding a leash with no child on the other end. She had undone the Velcro wrist tie on and left me for an adventure. So, after that I would put her in Osh Kosh over all dresses or shorts and tie the Velcro around the back of her outfits where her little hands could not undo it. She was safe and with me and that’s all that mattered. Soon she understood to stay with me and we stopped using the leash.
I don’t know how well the other two products you are speaking about work, but it sounds that your child has to be found and then read. Well I don’t know if losing your child and hoping someone will safely return them to you is the best plan. But it sounds like those products could be used on gear, like luggage tags, if lost then please return.
