Default My 4 year old is wild and mean

My 4 year old son can be so mean. He hits his sisters all the time, I have tried everything. Explaining to him all the time that it hurts and makes people sad when we hit them and it isn't nice. Time outs. Spankings (do not judge me) they rarely get a spanking and when they do it's nothing much. He popped his sisters balloon this morning just to be mean. My son bites his own hand ALL THE TIME, when he is excited about something or when he is angry. He tears his hand up from it, it's all red and tough and dry. He doesn't bite other people though and no one bites him. He always flaps his hands no matter what it's about if he is happy, sad, angry whatever it is he flaps his hands. He can go stare at the wall and flaps his hands at it with his mouth wide open. He doesn't seem to have a problem learning, but sometimes he gets frustrated. Like he knows his ABC's but sometimes when we go over them it's like he doesn't want to and pretends not to know a few of them. And when I am teaching him he can't sit still he is bouncing all over the place. I don't know what to do. I get really worried. I'm going to take him to get looked at soon. He doesn't have a problem interacting with people or talking.. he seems smart and does everything well so I don't know what it is. Any ideas what is going on?

What does "flaps his hands" mean? Can you describe that better?

Please take your son to get evaluated. It sounds like he may have Aspergers Disorder. I have a son with it and am all too familiar with the signs and symptoms. The earlier it is detected, the better. Although it doesn't "go away" it can be treated without having to use all kinds of medication. It can be frustrating but once you get all the facts it is easier to cope.
