Default The 2008 Stinky Diaper Awards

Postpartum pounds shed at warp speed! Pregnant teens glamorized! Nurseries overdecorated! Time once again to hand out this year's seriously smelly trophies.

Click here to learn more about our winners:
    • Celebs who lose their baby weight freakishly fast, like Nicole Kidman.
    • PETA, for suggesting that Ben & Jerry's make ice cream from breastmilk.
    • Autism-ignorant people, like Michael Savage (and on a related note, the show Eli Stone)
    • Parents who donate their kids to reality-shows.
    • J-Lo and Marc Antony for their oh-so-un-childproofed nursery.
    • Sorry, Jamie Lynn Spears. There are better role models out there for teens.
    • France, for forbidding television shows for children under the age of 3.

I saw JLo's nursery and thought "No, really... where do they keep those twins?" I'm a twin mommy too- you can't fool me!

I watched that show "The Baby Borrowers" this summer and I was apalled at the infant and toddler parents who loaned their kids. True, they were not far away, watching on a monitor, but really people. Does it seem safe to let a strange teenager/early 20 something watch your 6 month old in a strange house?

On a plus side, it did look like the teens/20 somethings did learn a lot about what having a baby means. It's not all cute clothes and fun accessories!

    Default Stinky Diaper Awards

I read my baby talk magazine last night and one of the "stinky Diaper awards" that was listed out last particually bugged me. Actually it did more than just bug me, it blantently pissed me off.... The "follow me" award given to Jaime Lynn Spears.
I was APPALLED when i read saw that Jaime Lynn Spears was blamed for Teenage pregnancy, and particularly for the pregnancy "pact". Girls have been getting pregnant as teenagers for decades and I find it completely rediculous that one individual who does just happen to be a celebrity would be blamed for this..... Maybe being a teenage mother isnt the smartest thing she has done in her life time, but AS MOTHERS, who are we to judge one of our own.... We can all agree that being a mother is the greatetst thing in the world, but because she stated the truth in People magazine, she gets all the blame. If this girl has not had enough to battle with since taking RESPONSIBLITY for her actions and raising her child. She has been called every name under the sun, had breastfeeding pictures stolen and sold, and had to deal with everyday critizism of women just like us that are just discriminating because she is a teenager... In my opinion she is putting a good name on teenage pregnancy perspective.. for those who are mothers or are pregnant and showing teenage mothers out there that you can be responsible, you can be a good mother and be a teenager... she isnt out getting drunk, partying like other celebrity moms (and even older ones) do, specifically her sister. Accidents happen, people have critized her from Day 1 for what has happened where there are girls around the globe that are in the same position she is... why should she take all the burden and all the blame? Girls make the decision to have sex... she didnt make them do it anymore or anyless.... I would be ashamed to print this article. I find it very critical, one sided and lacking empathy... It seems more like babytalk magazine has gotten caught up in "whats cool" like tabloids do.

I didn't think about it at the time but I do agree with you- when my cousin was 15 4 or 5 of her friends made that pact and they all got pregnant. She just had a baby at almost 20 and you should have seen all the 4 year olds and youngers at her shower. Way before Jaime Lynne. I don't subscribe to the tabloids but the few things that I have scene while standing inline at the grocer it seems to me that she is setting a good example.

I totally agree w/ you!! It reallly hurt my feelings that they high-lighted her like that!! I realize she was a role model for alot of young girls , but this is reality!! If a young girl went out & got preggo b/c Jamie Lynn did then that is a lack of parenting not Jamie Lynn's fault!! I would also think after losing her show & all the bad publicity it would definelty make kids think twice about having sex, not go out & start doing it!!

I wouldn't even watch baby borrowers. The thought of someone 'lending' their infant to a couple of teenagers just bothered me.

I'm sorry ladies, but Jamie Lynn isn't a good role model and I think it's irresponsible of her to glamorize being a teen mom. I'm not faulting her for being a young mother. What I'm saying is that she should be telling the whole truth about being a young mother, the good and the bad. I think that is where she falls short.

She isnt glamorizing it tho. she isnt going out saying " HEY GET PREGNANT ITS THE BEST THING EVER, EVEN IF YOUR A TEEN!" . Its the tabloid who are plastering her all over the covers, calling her a whore or slut and covering her every move. she is just living her life... what is she supposed to do, be ashamed? live her life stuck in her home because she made a mistake? thats not right.... She is doing alot of good things that MOST teenagers dont do. Most teenage mothers dont breastfeed and she is making it public that she does it and supports it.
Maybe not the greatest decision on her part, but she is NOT the cause of teen pregnancy. I'm not saying she is the best role model, but not every role model is going to always be a good one.... they all fall at one point and kids move on and forget about them...
There is alot of good and bad about motherhood, but you have to realize that tabloid print only what they want to print... and its normally not good. thats how they get people to buy the stuff. but she is not the cause of teen pregnancy.

Well said!! First of all I am in no way saying she was a good role model , but I think she handled the situation the best she could!! I have not one time seen her "glamorize" teen pregnancy. She made the best of her situation , but you cannot expect her to hide in her house or reject her child. She cannot help it that the paparazzi(sp?) follow her everywhere. I realize she put herself in the situation , but I cannot imagine being preggo that young & the rest of the world knowing & judging!! IMO she has done the best you could ask from her & I don't see how anyone could say any different!!
