So we have removed the side of my sons crib and converted it to a toddler bed. My son has a hard time laying in there on his own. He will cry sometimes very loud and keeps wanting to get out and have one of us in there with him while he passes out. We did this for the first week to get him acclimated to the change but this can't happen in the long run. We feel he needs to learn how to go to sleep on his own when its time for bed. He will sometimes ask for a nap which is our word for sleep. So we know he knows what his bed is and knows when it's time to sleep. Our method so far is just putting him back in bed while trying to calm him down and repeating this process. It's easier to put him down when we wear him out outside. I'm thinking this is going to be part of the solution. He is our first and is about to turn 3 next month. Any suggestions? I hate hearing him cry for one of us but I know I can't condition him to need us in there when he goes to sleep. I need help. Feeling like a shitty parent.
