If your baby is an infant, that is normal but you should still call your doctor.

It is normal. I forget the name for it, but it is from hormones she got from you. It's like a mini period. If you'll feel better it is worth calling the Dr. for peace of mind.

    How old is your baby?

This is one for the Why-Didn't-Anyone-Tell-Me file: When my daughter was about a week old, I went to change her diaper one day and saw blood. Thankfully, a friend of mine -- a pediatric nurse, no less -- was visiting me at the time. She said what Cay said.

We get their periods when our hormones plummet at the end of our cycle. Your baby, in your body, is exposed to your hormones, and when she's born, this hormone level drops off (permanently, until puberty) for her and triggers a one-time period.

Good thing my friend was there, otherwise I was about to freak out.

Still -- I'm not saying this is what's going on with your baby. You should confirm with your doctor if you're concerned...

thank you all. I should have been clearer with the incident, my baby is ten months old and had the mini period issue when she was much younger.
I do not feel its the same issue this time. I tried to reassure myself that the blood maybe from her itching the spot, but i cut her nails regularly and so am quite worried.

i don't know if it's the same issue you're having, but my daughter has had blood in her poopy diapers for the past 3 days. she is 7 weeks and breastfed. her dr said that its blood in the mucous that is coming with her poop so he's not worried. he said if it continues for a week to stop all dairy in my diet and see if that stops it.
