Question how to make a breakfast eater?

Hi guys I have a 5 year old son that I'm having difficulty getting him to eat breakfast. I have tried several things. buying all kids of cereal offering it to him in the am. making scrammbled eggs etc typically a favorite when we eat brunch out. Buying cereal bars, ganola bars, and even buying Nutri kids drinks and Carnation instant breakfast. Something that I know is in his stomach before he goes to school. On nonschool days he rarely eats breakfast until about noon or so. I will eat my breakfast at a normal time 8-9 in the am but he refuses or says after a bite of food he is full. I value breakfast for the importance having energy to get through the am after the night fast. I also know breakfast is important to fight off obesity. I myself would feel better knowing that I sent my son to school with a full belly. breakfast gives you brainpower, energy, keeps you fit, etc. Does anyone else have a child that does not eat breakfst or is this who he is going to be?

I'm sure your child is picking up on your feelings about breakfast. Try to be more relaxed about it. You are creating a power struggle with your son by trying to get him to eat. Try ignoring him when he doesn't eat and don't allow snacking in between meals. Provide a nutritious lunch and dinner. If he doesn't eat the breakfast do not make an issue of it, but don't allow him a snack. It sounds like he doesn't have a regular routine on his days off. Try to create regular meal hours with no snacking inbetween and I think you will find the issue resolves itself
    Good Luck

when i was younger i didn't like eating breakfast. it would turn my stomach and i would just run to the bathroom! have you talked to his doctor about it? maybe you can put some cereal in a little ziploc bag, or a reusable bag and he can eat it on his way to school.

Is it a possibility for him to eat breakfast at school? He may not be quite hungry enough to eat before going to school. My daughter was like that for a little while. I couldn't get her to eat before she went to school because she "wasn't hungry". I asked her when she got hungry and she said after she got to school. So I started sending money to school for her to eat breakfast there and she's been eating breakfast ever since. Now, she eats at home with no problems (most days) and I don't worry about her going to school and starting her day hungry.

I never ate breakfast until I got pregnant at age 26. It made my stomach queasy if I ate too soon after getting up, and I wasn't hungry for lunch if I waited too long. I was never over-weight, and I always got straight As all through school. You might try offering something very light like an apple or a piece of buttered toast. If he says he's not hungry don't force him. bvas' idea of putting cereal in a ziploc is also worth trying. Maybe your son will snack on it later in the morning.
