    Default Tummy Time

My 4 month old HATES being on his stomach. When I put him on his stomach to play, he's fine for a minute or so, then he starts whining and crying until I put him back on his back, and then he's just happy as a clam. Any suggestions on how to help with tummy time?

I went through that with Charlie. I think it was because he couldn't see everything around him on his tummy. You can't force it. If you're concerned about flat head, put him in a highchair, bouncy or anything that will keep his head off the floor. If you're concerned about him learning to roll over, don't, it is easier for some babies to learn to roll over from their back because they use their legs more from that position. Be patient, he'll figure out how fun it is to be on his tummy.

It's normal. My 6mo rolled over at 3 mo then he refused to roll over or be on his tummy until 5mo. Once he has more neck control and can push himself up to see he'll like to be on his tummy.

He has very good neck control. From the day he was born he could hold his own head up. I know tummy time is important, but he just hates it. He has rolled over once from his back, and twice from being on his stomach so he could be on his back.

Thanks for the advice, and I'll keep trying.
