    Default Kids on Facebook?

    Hello,

I'm new here and have a question for the group:

Is anybody else concerned about their children's activity on social networks? (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)

I'm not sure how worried people are about this and what, if anything, they do about it.

    Thoughts?

We simply don't allow it. Facebook is a great tool for a lot of things, but it's a distraction my kids don't need. They have sports, dance and other things to keep them socialized. I see no value in it.

I on the other hand see a huge value to social networking sites like facebook and twitter! Infact, this very site we're posting to is a great example of a social network. I do see the value of being a friend to your child's facebook account so that you may see what's happening and even have opportunity to mentor and teach about good and bad behaviour. I have seen so many positive ways people have boosted others self esteem using social networking - even some children posting for help through emotional issues have then gained access to immediate concern and well wishes. It's a great way to really see what your children go through on a daily basis and provides a great way to open conversation around the dinner table.

I think that it totally depends on the age of the child. Some children are simply too young to use facebook...elementary kids don't need facebook! I let me kid have a facebook profile in high school

I would also agree that having kids on Facebook isn't good. I don't think anyone younger than a freshman in high school should be on there. It's important to talk to them about internet safety!
