Default I need help pottying trainng my 2 yr old

I've been trying to potty train my 2 year old for quite a while now. The first time i tryed he thought his potty was a toy so i put it away for some time and then took it out later. This time around my 2 yr old won't even sit down on the potty. I tryed taking advice from putting him in the potty when i go to the restroom to buying him a potty dvd so he would understand better. I need some advise on how i can make him understand he pees and poos in the potty sitting down.

    Hi There,
I feel your pain, I have potty trained my 3 boys and it was hard with each one and I felt like they weren't getting it the whole time. Here are a few things I did to help me. First of all you have to be ready, ready to take them to the bathroom every 15 minutes for the next few months, ready to clean up messes off the floor and ready to keep it together when they just arent getting it. Start with putting your child on the potty a few times everyday. Praise them for sitting there and give them a treat just for sitting on the potty. Put them on when they wake up, after breakfast, before you leave the house, when you come back from an outing, before nap, before bath time, etc, etc, etc. Any time you can think about it, have them sit on the potty and then give them a treat. Even if they dont pee make a big deal about it. Potty charts work great, stickers, toys, candy, anytype of reward. Juice is also great to keep them hydrated and wanting to pee. I got a lot of my tips from www.superundies.com they have a free E-book on potty training with great advice and reviews on different potty chairs. Check them out because it really helped me. Also I love their cloth training pants, my son's loved them. They look like real underwear so they want to wear them, but they absorb any leaks your child may have during potty training. Good luck!

Wow. Potty training was a really trying time in our household too. It takes commitment, patience (oh, so much patience), and positivity.

To answer your specific question of how to get your son to realize he needs to potty sitting on the potty chair: We found giving our son a book to read on the potty worked well. It kept him busy, made him a little less antsy, and relaxed him enough to "release". It doesn't have to be a potty book, but those are good too.

Using a potty training chart is a must. You can get both potty training tips, as well as free, printable potty charts at http://www.kidpointz.com/parenting-a...potty-training. Charts helps both the child and the adult see progress and focus on the positive. Very important.

Good luck! It Will happen, sooner or later.

First, understand that the average child begins potty training at 2.5 years, but the average child IS trained around their 3rd birthday - and older is still in the okay range. So don't stess over it too much, especially if he doesn't seem interested in it yet.

To get him to understand - have both mom and dad let him know when they are going - and let him watch. When you notice he is going in his diaper point it out to him - "I see you stopped playing I think you ae going pee-pee/poo-poo" (or whatever terms you woul like to use).

Consider giving him naked time. When he does go - it probably will be on the floor - but keep calm that is okay - be prepared ahead of time and calmly tell him "look, you went potty, usually you diaper catches it. Next time you feel the pee-pee coming we can go sit on the pott" - this of course will not train him - but will help him to be more aware of his body.

Consider checking out a few potty training books from the library - many of them have "is my child ready?" checklists - and some even give strategies based on you'r childs personality/temperment.

Good luck - we are in the middle of training too :-)
