How much a child will cost depends entirely on the parents. For example, are you going to have a lot of family/friends who will help with baby gifts, etc? Do you have (and do you mind) people to give you their children's outgrown clothes/toys/etc? It is possible to have a child on a lower income and be thrifty (shop at consignment shops, yard sales, using clothing swap sites, etc). There are also places to get free stuff. Freecycle.org is a great one for anything (clothes, household goods, strollers, furniture, etc.) The biggest expenses the first few years are diapers, formula, and daycare but if you are on low income look for diaper banks in your area that will give out free diapers/wipes, Apply for WIC and/or food stamps, and many states have a program to help with daycare costs (the one in CT is called Care 4 Kids and is for low to medium income households.) The best thing to do is to sit down and make a list of everything you will need then start saving or acquiring items as you can. Good luck!
