    Unhappy Not Ovulating? Scared...

Hey all, getting a lil nervous...my DH and I plan to start TTC in December. In preparation for all of this, we have made as many "healthy" changes to our lives as we are able. Additionally, I bought the Understanding Your Fertility book, bought a basal body thermometer, and have been charting for the past 2 months.

The problem is the following: my temp never "spikes" as it is "supposed to". I have a 30-day cycle, and the rest of my body's reactions, etc., are "normal"; I seem to ovulate around day 18 or 19, but my temps don't rise. For instance, I am in day 24 of this cycle and my temps haven't risen about 97.3...and this has been for the past 2 months. We haven't started TTC yet but the charting is leading me to believe that I am NOT ovulating, and that we are going to have quite a bit of trouble conceiving (which is of course my greatest fear). When we decided to try, I visited my OB/GYN, who told me that I seem to be in perfect health, regarless of my fears of infertility...

Is it possible that I am ovulating, and that my temps simply don't rise? Or has my charting perhaps alerted me to greater problem?

    Hi Hon,

Don't worry you're definitely ovulation. I had 33-day cycles. You know, the change in body temp will be very slight, like if you're regularly 98.4 then when you ovulate you will be 98.7 like that. By the way, whether or not you're ovulation can also depend on when you stopped your birth-control if it was hormonal. If you get off of birth control it can take from 3--6 months before you're fertile again, unless you were using condoms the whole time. I read last time that you are taking vitamin pills, so I just wanted to suggest that sometimes with over the counter vitamins, cheaper quality products are used that your body doesn't absorb as fast, that's why prescription vitamins are so much more expensive, because they're so much more effective. You can read up in any health journal about that. Also if you're over-weight for your height it might prevent ovulation. I hope that helps, keep us informed and don't stress!

    Talking

Omigod, thank you so much! I've been trying super hard not to stress about it, my hubby thinks that i am CRAZY, worrying about infertility when we haven't even STARTED ttc. I will talk to my GYN about perscription pre-natals, start them ASAP. I guess that I am slightly overweight, but not enough to stress about. I can't tell you how much better I feel after reading that the changes in body temp are often pretty slight - thank you thank you THANK YOU!!!!

I used the First Response Ovulation Tests after I went off birth control. We found that to be helpful.
