    Default fiona = shrek??

Hi everyone, I'm due in March and I'm having a girl. Ever since we found out I was pregnant, my hubby and I agreed that if the baby was a girl we'd name her Fiona, we both love it. Personally, I've always loved it and it doesn't make me think of the movie Shrek. However, I constantly get asked at work what the baby's name will be, and 9 times out of 10 when I say "Fiona," people immediately giggle and say "Oh, like from Shrek?? Hm..". I typically don't care so much about what people think, but I also really don't want my daughter to get teased in school about her name. Do you think people will have forgotten about Shrek by the time she's in school, or do you think she'll be getting Shrek comments forever? Thanks for your advice ahead of time!

My name happens to be similar to a franchise chain out there. I use it to my advantage to make sure people hear my name right. If people do still think of Shrek it will either really bother your daughter, or she too will not care what people think.

Alternative, change the first letter, like Liona or Siona. Although, those will probably need to be spelled out by her over her entire life - but again she will be bothered by it or she will not care.
If you love the name I think you should use it - and you never know, when she is born you may suddenly decide she looks more like a Jane :-)

Fiona is a beautiful name; even though I've seen shrek movie, I still think of Fiona Apple. What the name reminds people of shouldn't keep you from using it. Go for it!
