I'm sorry this is long......
Our 3 1/2 yo son (who has been with us constantly for the last year) started a new day school going on 4 weeks ago. The first week was a little rocky with a little crying, nothing major, but by the third week, whenever I would drop him off he launched into massive melt down. I tried not making a big deal over him, because I know that makes it worse, but one day he cried for over an hour! I finally had to leave work and go get him. Once he saw me, he was ok. He told me, Mommy, we have to get out of this place. Broke my heart.
My husband and I sat down with him and talked. He told us about a kid that kept hitting him and we thought, BINGO, we have the root. So we talked to the director of the facility and together we decided to move him up into the next class since he was close to being moved anyway. He had two great afternoons in that new class, but the mornings are BAD with him crying until the director comes and takes him with her (out of the classroom setting).
We are at our wits end. We don't know what to do to make him more comfortable there. Maybe it's the facility itself? Maybe he has severe separation anxiety? If so, then why are his afternoons good? When I left this morning, he was pressed up against the door crying his eyes out watching me leave. I about didn't! We just don't know what to do to make our little man ok.... any suggestions?
