Unhappy 3 yr old doesnt eat solid foods

I am worried that's why I'm posting this.. I feel guilty because I haven't put too much attention to him when I started working.. I'm working for him also but I didn't know his health would be affected.. He doesn't eat rice or anything. just snacks, candies, donuts.. doesn't like water and he drinks, coke, c2 etc.. and until now he is drinking milk in bottles.. should I stop him drinking milk so that he can eat breakfast, lunch and dinner with us?

I just hope that of all 130 views even one would reply.. I just don't know what to do with him.. It worries me that he might get sick of not eating anything..

Stop giving him sweets. He is filling up on those and not wanting to eat the healthy stuff. Offer him fruits instead to statisfy the sweet tooth and juice for drinks. Get the other stuff out of the house so he or u wont be tempted. He may throw some tantrums but don't give in we both it is for his best interest in the end. he will eat when he is hungry enough. limited the milk to 2 a day. To much can be bad for them and cause touth decay.

I have to agree with PP. get the junk out. If you have to go back to baby food, do it. it's not solid, but it's at least got nutritional value.

When you say milk in a bottle, do you mean a baby bottle or a sippy cup? If it's a bottle, you need to get that out of his mouth right away. Drinking from a bottle can cause permanent jaw damage.

i haven't checked numbers, but nutritionally, he probably shouldn't be drinking more than 18oz of milk to get calcium and vitamin D. If he's thirsty after that, offer water. He'll drink it eventually. But no small child should ever have soda because it has no nutritional value and will rot his teeth. They may be baby teeth, but if they fall out too soon his adult teeth won't come in right and then they will be set up to rot. Not to mention too much sugar can lead to obesity.

he won't want to eat non-sugary stuff right away because his taste buds are used to sugar. It will take time to get him recalibrated, but you have to do it for his health. Take heart, he won't starve, but he may go a few meals without really eating. If you need more help, please bring this up with his doc about how to improve his diet.

    Hi Supermom,

If you're compelled to go to work you just have to find an alternate help. Please don't mind but your son is eating all the junk foods and this is very bad for him and not to scare you but it could lead to serious health problems later on. At 3 years he should be eating all the nutritious food for an old round good development. Please plan healthy recipes for him and stick to it no matter what and also do not keep any junk foods in the house.

The book "How to get your kid to eat, but not too much" by Ellyn Satter has good advice on getting your kid to eat better. Hope you read it, it should eventually help you and actually give you a little more time to enjoy meals with your child.
