Question When did your child walk?

So my son is 14 months today...and is still not walking. He cruises and will walk holding our hands, but still not doing it on his own. All I keep hearing is stories of kids who walked at 9 months. I just need to hear from some folks who had kids walking a bit later.

I believe my son was in the 13-14 months range before he really started walking on his own without holding hands/furniture.
I wouldn't be concerned if I were you, it's still early.

I worked with a child who he and his brother both walked at 17-18 mo, and his sister was still not walking at 15 mo. Mom was fine with it, just knew her kids were later with walking. You child is still in the average range, and late walking does not mean anything bad for your baby's furture. Think about what your baby is doing in the earlier average range (takling, feeding self, etc) and maybe it will help you feel better - but remember your baby is still developing typically.

DD took her first wobbly steps at 14 months and didn't walk "well" until 2-3 weeks later. Their are TONS of kids who start walking on the later side of the normal range. It's just that the parents whose kids walked early (especially very early) tend to talk about it way more. That's all it is. When your child will start walking is, for the most part, determined at birth through genetics. Your son will get there! I know the waiting is hard.

Your son is fine. My oldest son didn't walk completely on his own until he was just over 18 months old. My ped told me that as long as he was cruising and was walking holding onto our hands at 18 months then he was still considered normal. He will do it when he is ready, and there is nothing you can do to speed him up.

Besides that, the earlier they walk the earlier you have to seriously child proof your house and put things up really high. Walking is a blessing and a curse. lol

Have you tried having him hang with toddlers that are walking? My neighbors child is 6 months older than mine and everytime my child's development stalled I'd take her over to see my neighbors child to jump start her. She always wants to do what the other kids are doing.

    Smile Good news..I've been there!

I know exactly how you feel. My son is now 2 and he didn't walk fully until he was 18 mths. He took his first steps (3 to be exact) without anything at about 16 mths he fell back and hit his head and didn't let go of anything for awhile after that. I was so worried. He was developing in other ways feeding himself, talking, and discovering all sorts of things. He just wasn't confident in walking by himself.
He would hold on to push toys, furniture, and all that stuff. I talked to my husband's mom and he didn't walk fully until he was 18 mths either. Just remember at the toddler phase they are developing so much in all different areas. They have a lot going on. There is always something with parenting to worry about your child no matter what stage they are going through. My advice to you is to sit back and enjoy the ride, because your child will get there. Pretty soon your child will be running. That's what my son did he started walking and went to running FAST. He was confident in himself and ready to walk. When he started walking and running then his speech slowed. Then I got nervous about that. But when they are developing in one area another may slow. So it will be okay....DON'T WORRY! And don't compare them to other kids you know the same age which is really hard not to do, but everyone is not the same. So take a deep breath and don't get upset over it just enjoy your child for who they are!

Don't worry about it! My son didn't start walking until he was 18 months, and once he did, he skipped walking and went straight into running. Don't get discouraged about it because kids can sense that. Just be patient and encourage your child to start walking by helping them do so. Good luck!

Mine didn't walk until almost 15 months I got some shoes that help him to feel more comfortableand give him support in the feet. I found them in a blog and I got 2 pairs. The best shoes ever. www.sockoes.com
